Looking for a Windows 98 driver. So far I only found this driver for GDB450, which sorta works for basic movement, but I don't think it correctly recognizes it, it says the device is standard serial mouse, so the control panel for it never shows trackpad options, only regular mouse options.
https://www.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php … ee698b52bf01783

I'm interested to see if the (correct) driver has an "absolute" positioning mode, meaning touching bottom left corner would put the cursor in the bottom left corner, or touching top right would put the cursor in the top right corner (not dragging the cursor around).

Let me know if anyone could point me to the correct driver, of if these devices support absolute positioning.

Try this....

The attachment GP98.txt is no longer available
The attachment gp98.exe is no longer available

Yellow exclamation point in Device Manager, code 24.

I recall playing around with it over 20 years ago... Maybe I had a floppy with the driver at some point? The ones I have with me aren't it.

Try one of the attached.

Also is this you?

According to the post, Gpv24.exe works from here:
https://web.archive.org/web/19961027222745/ht … com/driver.html

Not me.

gpv24.exe did not work. I think this one is not serial.

win91c.exe did not work. Not serial?

d20925.zip did not work. Not serial?

d75949.zip missing cab file inside. I subsituted it from gp98, it got the file it was missing, but yellow exclammation point, code 24.

So far only the driver at the link in OP worked, if partially. Kind of bizarre. Then again, it was probably Windows 95 I was using it with before back in the day, on my old 486. Maybe some or most of these drivers just don't work on Windows 98. I did not try the DOS drivers.

Maybe I'll come back and retest these if I run a copy of Windows 95 on this machine, or Windows 3.x...

I did check out the control panels that came with the drivers, I didn't spot anything about absolute positioning, which is what I was seeking anyway. So maybe it's not actually worth getting it to work.

I had another idea... Some of these drivers have very different structure, but some have similar. Maybe I can mix and match some files to make a franken-driver? A long shot but I'll give the files a closer look.

And another idea I have is perhaps unplugging the primary PS/2 (optical) mouse (no specific driver, just default PS/2 mouse driver), to see if there's some kind of conflict. I was trying to avoid doing that, for obvious usability reasons.

The Cirque GlidePoint GDB220 was called Cirque Glidepoint Desktop. The drivers on the packaging are version 9.0 (according to the box picture of an Ebay auction) and 9.1c are the updated version. You can try 9.0 as well.

As you mentioned, this product was released before Windows 98. It has Windows 95 driver, but might be problems with it on Win98.

Looking at the .INF files from Glidepoint 2.x versions (released 1999-2003) including the file for GDB450 not all products are specifically mentioned. Seems that Legacy products were all grouped together which would result in the behaviour you experienced using that driver.

There seems to have been a major overhaul of the drivers when Win98 came out. This is backed up on the FAQ on Cirque webpage and a post on USENET.

The earliest Glidepoint products (Desktop, Touchpad, Touchpad 2) seems to have had their own driver releases and never got fully updated Windows 98 drivers.

Indeed I looked inside the INF files and did not see specific products listed, which made this more difficult.

Yep, I agree, this may not be supported on Windows 98. I don't remember using it myself beyond Windows 95 back in the day, that must have been no later than 2002.
