I’ve been shrinking all my commonly used PCs in an effort to clear up room on my desk. Put this together together to replace my windows 98/95/dos support machine. Mini itx(ish) proprietary mobo from a Honeywell dvr, 512gb sdram, Tualatin celeron 1.2 ghz, floppy, gotek, slot load dvd rw, 2 cf to ide adapters, Sd to ide adapter, startech usb 2.0 pci card, ati rage xl pci, all in a 8”x8”x8” package. A work in progress, to do list includes: making front, side, rear panels, add a couple small fans, mount power and reset buttons and front USB’s in front panel, add floppy switch mounted in f panel to choose between drives as I discovered that this board only supports a single floppy. Happy with the build so far. Not a gaming pc, wanted usb 2.0 and rage xl supports 720 p wide screen as this pc is used with a widescreen monitor and I can’t stand the black bars. Onboard ac97 for sound.

Nice little system, excellent for RTS / RPG gaming! Any pictures of the mainboard?

Nice small setup. I have also some plans for small retro build, but in my case low profile matx will do it just fine or nlx form factor.

Best ATi Rage3 drivers for 3DCIF / Direct3D / OpenGL / DVD : ATi RagePro drivers and software
30+MiniGL / OpenGL Win 9x dll files for all ATi Rage3 cards : Re: ATi RagePro OpenGL files

This is fantastic, please share more photos. It only needs 3D printed case now.

Me too, though going low profile does drastically limit your options for soundcard and video card.

matx with solo1 integrated sound is good starting point for me, just tought to use lp geforce2 mx or lp rage128 pro agp graphics.

Thanks! If you PM me, I will point you to a current eBay listing for NOS chaintech matx pentium 2 440ex boards with onboard ess solo-1/ rage 2c. I bought one and put it in the smallest matx case I could find. Works perfectly

Thank you! I will share more photos later on this evening. Unfortunately, the logistics of 3-D printing a case for this are out of reach for me, but maybe down the line. I have to do research, buy equipment. It’s been on my list but my list is long.

On a side note for anyone looking for a cheap tiny build like this (or parts for one) the thin clients of the time make a good starting point. Most of them with an AMD Athlon, Early AMD64, Geode, or VIA C3 family tend to be good candidates. Some Intel parts standard (which is good) but could get strange. Parky Towers has a nice database even if you're not in the UK. https://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/

And if it's not standard hardware it'll at least be cheap and interesting. Although watch out for things like the Wyse Zeros with no ability to load an OS or odd proprietary hardware.

I have a bunch of via based c3 and c7 mini itx boards, gigabyte, ecs, via epia. The via based boards support pci bifurcation as well but good luck finding a reverse 90 riser that works with them. Sbemu works great with all that I have tested though, fx5500 graphics card works very well at 1080p. Wyse cx0 is cheap and tiny and runs dos well, afaik there are no win 98 drivers for it. sbemu works well but I could only get sound to output from the front audio jack. Parkytowers website is pretty cool. I was happy to find the mobo i used as it is Intel chipset, supports PCI bifurcation, and reverse 90 degree dual pci riser is available, allowing me to build in the form factor I desired
