Hi all! Total noob here, so bear with me.

After learning the very basics of Dosbox and slowly relearning bits of the DOS command line, I seemingly successfully installed an old game known as Star Crusader (it's from 1994.) ... but ran into a problem.

Per the sticky, specs! I'm running Dosbox 0.72 on Mac OS 10.4.11; on an Intel Macbook:

Processor: Intel Core Duo @ 1.83GHz
RAM: 1GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512)
Video: Intel GMA 950, 64MB shared system memory
I'm not sure what the sound is on this machine, nor am I sure what sound and video mode I've got Dosbox in.

I tried running it from the emulated hard drive and got the error that MSCDEX wasn't loaded... so assumably this old game runs from both the CD and the HDD.

So I went and mounted the CD again, then tried running the game again.

Crash. No error messages from the game, nothing from Dosbox, Dosbox just up and closed itself. This happens every time (5 times now...). I'm also not quite sure where to find the config file to play with the settings.

So any help would absolutely lovely; I'd love to play my beloved old games on my current machine.

First, please update the DOSBox application to 0.73 (I also run it with Mac OS X 10.4.11, but on a PowerPC Mac).

It's the file 'DOSBox 0.73 Preferences' located in '/Users/Yourname/Library/Preferences".
This file is very self-explaining by giving all possible options per config line.

I, thought, can't tell anything about the game itself.

Still crashing with no errors after I:

Updated Dosbox to 0.73
Disabled sound
Played with the CPU cycles
Played with the memory size
Played with the type of machine emulated

Thinking about trying to get Dosbox onto my Windows PC and seeing if it works over there...

Further suggestions?

Played with CPU type which is new to 0.73?

And I just tried it on my PC with Dosbox (Windows 2000, haven't looked up the specs) and it works great, though the input is sometimes a little laggy. Looks like this mysterious no-error crash is Mac-specific.

Now you'll never get rid of me.
