Anyone tried the Radeon glide wrapper?
Anyone tried the Radeon glide wrapper?
I have a REAL video card and a REAL TV tuner card, thankyouverymuch. None of that hybrid bastard child crap.
Yes, it’s my fault.
Geez...Hostile today.
I'm just playing with you 😉
Yes, it’s my fault.

No, but it likely runs on more than just Radeon. Give it a shot, guys...
Hey, wouldn't it be great if the creator of this, Paul Gardinier of GLIDOS, and the author of eVoodoo all got together and... 😀

Since it's called the "Radeon Glide Wrapper", why would you think that? Are you just trying use us as Guinea Pigs in case it fries something?
It could very well be, Nicht. It could very well be.
Just the same...*tries it, video card explodes* ... aww, hell.
Stiletto, you're paying for this.
Yes, it’s my fault.
Very funny.
To answer Nicht, as you know, the Radeon is just a card that uses OpenGL or DirectX. There's nothing that should be Radeon-specific about this..

Maybe ATi has some l33t s3kr3t API or something.
Yes, it’s my fault.

It's just that the programmer acted like it...from the ReadMe:
If you're not going to read anything else, at least read this:
!!!ATI Radeon only!!!
In any case, I went ahead and tested it under 98SE. The most positive response I got was:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
BRender error, Unable to allocate Main Front Screen
-----------------------------------------------------------------
for Carmageddon II demo. Everything else was either a lock-up, crash, or a system lock-up.
I'll try it on the XP side when I get the chance.
Ordered the 9700 yesterday so I'll see if the "s3kr3t API" is true or not. 😀
*gasp* Heretic! Burn him! Buuurn him! How DARE you use anything other than nVidia cards? They're the best, and don't you forget it!
Yes, it’s my fault.
I know I know. 🙁 Was disappointed looooooonnngg ago by ATI and have followed their "progress" (more like muddling around if ya ask me...) for some time. Have played around with all of their cards throughout the years and been pretty disappointed by all. The 9700 will decide it for me if ATI has gotten their act together or not. (Gotta try what I recommend/disrecommend? to others before I bash 'em)
Previous Graphics Cards personally owned by me:
Geforce 4 Ti4600 (current)
Geforce 3 Ti500
Geforce 3
Geforce 2 GTS
Matrox G400
TNT 1 AGP
Cirrus Logic 2mb vram VLB
Trident 1mb VLB
uhhh...some POS video card in my 286-12mhz had 256k of vram.
Hey, dude, when you're done with the GF4Ti4600 I'll take it off your hands for you...😉
Yes, it’s my fault.

AnandTech makes it sound nice:

Still no go. Although I did get a couple of new errors:
RedBaron3d "Tried to read memory that could not be read" error.
GrandPrix Legends Coudn't start "because redline.dll was not found". (Note redline.dll isn't part of RedBaron or the "Radeon Glide Wrapper").
Finally found out why (from my email conversation with the author):

It uses ATI-specific OGL extensions for the combiner emulation.
ATIX_texture_env_combine3 for Radeon1/Radeon7500
ATI_fragment_shader for Radeon8500/9000 and up
plus some goodies the NV drivers don't support (or didn't when I started), like ARB_window_pos.
Just the usual thing you have to do once you want to do something serious in OpenGL.
But ...
I have changed to sort of a plugin architecture for the pixel path 'backends', and work in progress NV_register_combiners support, which I can't complete/test for lack of NV hardware but it should be
pretty easy to find my bugs and drop the rest right in.

Which is probably why it was called "Radeon Glide Wrapper" and why the ReadMe said "!!!ATI Radeon only!!!"

Heh. Well, he didn't say WHY... 😀
Anyhow, to my credit, I'd forgotten about vendor-specific GL-extensions (I'd think most programmers would like to avoid them whenever possible). Still, it brings up an interesting question: Could this be done in OpenGlide? 😀

Zeckensack's updated his wrapper again, for you Radeon users.
What's New:
Oct-02-2002 Version 0.59b *EXPERIMENTAL*
*hotfixed pinkish artifacts, this will be reworked as it busted some LFB functions
*also introducing an 'alternative' version (for Tarzan, NFS2)
