Hey guys, I've been setting up my newly-acquired 386 system for the past few hours, and just finished. I went to play SimTower in Windows 3.11, and it tells me it cannot run without TrueType and quits. Apparently TrueType is disabled at 256 colors and below. My video card is an ISA Tseng ET4000AX, and it will not load windows at color settings higher than 256 colors. If I select 32768 or 65536, it says I can't do that and kicks me back to DOS.
Now based on the second-to-last comment in this thread VGA VLB Tseng STB ET4000 W32P video card, quick test, as well as some hinting in the driver readme, I think that the ET4000 needs at least 1MB of memory to run higher than 256 colors. Mine has 512KB according to the ebay seller I purchased it from. However, looking at the card, is the vertical row of sockets on the left where additional RAM goes? If so, it looks like it has 4 256KB chips, right? If so, are they maybe in the wrong sockets for it to detect all of them? I am completely new to this so please forgive me for sounding stupid and educate me!
So basically to sum up, my questions are:
1. Can the ET4000AX run higher than 256 colors with 1MB of memory, and
2. Judging from my picture, how much memory is installed, and does it appear that anything is configured incorrectly?
Thanks a ton guys, like I said I'm a total noob to this.
