OS: Windows Vista, 32-bit
DOS-based Software: HYSIM 2.72 (engineering fluid calc stuff)

Situation: This program requires recognition of the security device. The security device is a 25-pin serial port plug-in. It is located on COM1, at this moment.

I can run DOSBox and execute the software, but HYSIM (the app) notifies that it 'cannot locate the security device'. Further, I have "dosbox-0.74.config" with the following settings:

serial1=directserial realport:com1
serial2=directserial realport:com1
serial3=directserial realport:com1
serial4=directserial realport:com1

The security device and software work correctly on a system running Windows NT.

Please, if you can help with security device recognition.

Are you absolutely sure it's a good idea to use a games-targeting emulator for an engineering application?

You might try VMWare, which I know other folks have used with hardware dongle devices before successfully. The player is free, and as long as you have a copy of original DOS around (which the app might be picky about anyway!) you'll be all set. Or you can try Freedos under VMWare if you can't find a copy of real DOS.

Thank you for tips and quick response. After some more research, I landed on MS Virtual PC. Thus far, my little program is installed, and running. Now, I just need to figure out how to print.
