Hello again. A couple of months ago my old computer's hard drive failed. A part pretty much melted or something.

Anyways, I was resetting up games and now I am setting up Alien Logic: SkyRealms of Jorune. I remembered pretty much everything that I needed from last time, but there's a problem. (ioctrl for CD and disable sound)

The screen is shaking. Last time this happened, it wasn't as bad, but now it's really distracting. I set the Render method to opengl and it fixes that, however, now sound and picture don't sync when I'm watching the intro so I'm guess it's going to do that everwhere. The same thing happens in openglnb. surface, overlay, and ddraw all have the screen shaking.

So now I've gotta compromise. Is there a way? Thank you very much in advanced.

Edit @ + 03:06 hr (more details): The problem is apparently… gone. I think it might come and go. I thought that I solved it when I used doublebuffering, fullfix, and aspect correction, but I hadn't. It just disappeared, but I fear it'll come and go.

I have reason to believe that it might be the computer monitor. I might've told you guys but the monitor's actually an older one than the one that came with this computer; it semi-broke and now when the computer goes fullscreen, the monitor's image shifts to the left and it has to be scrolled over to the left (manually, analoguely). However, we're using it because the original monitor stopped working one day. I planned to check the original but haven't because it is quite heavy, and I wouldn't like to move it without a good enough reason 😜

Edit @ original posting + 15:03 hr (solution maybe?): Yup, the problem comes and goes. Fullfix AND the correct resolution for this game (800x600) is the solution as far as I can tell, but fullfix makes the fullscreen tiny heightwise and stretched widthwise, so I am going to have to check out the original monitor.

Edit @ original posting + 16:36 hr (:depressed:): No luck with the original monitor*. However, I'd like to keep this topic open to see if anyone (anyone) can find an alternative solution to this problem. Until then (if ever) I guess I'll have to put up with the screen flickering sometimes. Although I really liked opengl -- no flickering and screen fills up completely. The only problem with it is that it's too slow in the intro (it's like an animated slideshow with audio), if only there was a fix for that.

*What's wrong with the monitor is that it keeps turning off and on (I know this because the power light switches off and on. It also makes an annoying bone-cracking like sound, it's kinda hard to describe, most people in the family can't even hear it.) before it actually even displays anything.

Edit @ same time (opengl rox!): What am I talking about? The pros of opengl vastly outnumber the cons as well as the pros of anything else. I mean if it isn't that bad that the voice and slideshow slides don't sync 100% the whole rest of the game, as far as I know is completely playable. There's no flicker and the screen fills up completely (which are two way more annoying things). Besides the game is polite enough to let the slides catch up (which only takes about a second or two) and let you press a key in order to finish the intro and get introduced to Salrough. So opengl is perfect the way it is! 😊 😁 Now on to fixing the cycles.

Edit @ original posting +18:34 hr (more details on opengl rocking!): Besides, I've noticed that a minimal non-zero frameskip rate (of 1) fixes the problem up perfectly, and you don't even have to doublebuffer in order to counter-balance, but you will have to turn up cycles to 11.500 (average between the default 3.000 and default maximum 20.000) in order to see the whole intro 😉
