Hi, I'm new to the forum, and have a few questions or problems when running System Shock 1 on dosbox 0.70. I managed to install and run the game from dosbox 0.70, runs great at 640x480, but at moments, the colors all change, flash into these bright display of colors that mess up the entire screen. If I knew how to take a picture of the in game problem, I would show you. Does someone know how to solve this? The game at some point exited to the dos prompt abruptly. Another problem, or, well instead a question, is how do I change the key assignment in the game? I would like to use the wasd key combo to move around, and would the game run faster if I increased cpu cycles?

Thanks in advanced for your help,

edit: I read the readme and found out how to take a screenshot, so here it is. Turns out, it not only changes the colors, but on the dosbox console lotsa illegal read errors show. Does someone know what could the problem be? I really would like to play this classic on my pc!

Does this happen when DosBox is run in a window or fullscreen?

Have you tried different "output=" in dosbox.conf?

Thank you for replying to my post. Well, I have only tried it when dosbox is at fullscreen. I'm looking at the dosbox.conf file, dont know which values for output to use. Do you have any recommendations?

overlay or ddraw if your using the official DosBox 0.70.

If you installed your video card's official drivers then you can try opengl.

Try it in a window and see if that has any effect.

Here´s another screenshot of the problem. Maybe it's a video driver problem?
Apparently it occurs with VGA mode 640x480, which is the mode in which i would like to play ss1

Yea, it's an internal screenshot I took with ctrl-f5. Could it be a bug within dosbox? Yes, this is when in fullscreen mode. How do I force a different resolution, like 800x600?

if you have read errors then a different output/forced resolutions doesn't help.
have you tried changing the sound settings of the game ?
