I have one SFF Fujitsu E3521E G41/ICH7 (D3041-A motherboard) and Windows 98 SE does not work well after first restart from clean install, only safe mode works, Win98SE also has no CD/DVD available, i have used 1x1GB DDR3 or 2x1GB DDR3 (2GB ram patching, 1GB works without).

Win98SE CONFIGMG error @ normal mode:
While Initializing device CONFIGMG: Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer.

Is something up with standard ide controller @ Win98SE? What chipset drivers should i use?

Should i have G41 motherboard with ide, this Fujitsu has only sata connectors for hdd/odd.
Is there any good low profile PCI audio cards for Win9x? Low profile pciex16 graphics i find.
Low profile Nvidia Quadro NVS285 (NV44) or similar i can get for good price or totally free.

WinME works better at the moment, normal mode starts all the time and CD/DVD is available + USB also works out of the box. Realtek 8111DL lan drivers should be available for Win98SE/ME (version 5.708) and 2xPCI is better than 1xPCI and it has FDD.

Low profile pciex16 graphics i find.
Low profile Nvidia Quadro NVS285 (NV44) or similar i can get for good price or totally free.

Good low profile PCIe with Win9x drivers? Radeon X550/X700 with 128-bit bus, also OEM cards like Dell - Dell E-G012-05-2436 Ati Radeon X600
GeForce cards past GeForce FX are somewhat sketchy when it come to driver bugs and I can't recall any LP models which had 128-bit memory bus.

Depends on what you consider good. If you want hardware 3D audio, you're probably out of luck. There are community projects in the works like Aureal + Yamaha sound card which has low profile option though.

ATi X600 (128bit) low profile would be good graphics card, i have X600, X700 and X800, but regular size only.

For the sound card i have no special requirements at first, at least it should work. CMI8738 has low profile ones.

Better to use Windows ME with that machine then? WinME needs some tweaking for the dos part as i remember.

Nah, just install Windows 98 SE with some community patches.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

What patches? I can get Windows 98 SE work only in safe mode right now and normal mode only starts once, right after clean install, even if i do not make any changes and i restart / shutdown that pc, only safe mode works after and i get Win98 configmg error at next boot @ normal mode.

RLoew Windows 98 patches and other small fixes like Nvidia 512Mb VRAM fix.

I have no other cards installed for now, just 1x1GB or 2x1GB ram, pentium e5700 and integrated graphics @ 16 colors for now, ram patch does not fix configmg, for 2GB it helps. Same goes for RLoew sata patch, configmg error still there.
