Hy everyone,
I bought some scsi caddys cd drives the other day.
With great difficulty I managed to get cd caddys for them, but they don't really want to work.
The cd drives:

The caddys :

And the scsi card I tried :

I also tried with another card.
The error is:
The texel and the yamaha when inserting the disc, after a few seconds it releases.
The Matsushita is a mechanical loaded, 8 cd drive is put into the system, one of them says when opening it to insert a disc, one of them shows a blank drive when opening it
All these drives are recognized by the windiws, they are visible in the device manager, I tried to set more IDs, terminate, etc., but no success.
The caddy is advertised as a commodore cd32, but I think it is the same as the pc caddy.
What do you suggest to try?
Do you know a mechanic who knows how to repair it?
I would really like to revive these as they are 91, 92 and 97 production, very rare, they have their place.
Thanks for any helping!

The mechanical parts of CD-ROM are prone to breakdown and it doesn't matter if it's IDE or SCSI. You have to open them, clean the lens and gears, lubricant them, change the belt and see what happens.

to the best of my knowledge, all cd caddies were the same so that's not the issue

Agree ! The single disk caddies are all the same AFAIK. Have a few 6x Plextors that use caddy and is same type as the Yamaha 4x.
BTW both those old cdroms have issues reading CDR unless they are the older 4x, 8x , or 1-24x media types (like the 1997 Imation Gold top with the blue-green dye), But can read any commercial made cdrom so far...

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Yes the caddys are the same across the board they were universal. The faults are just old drives needing maintenance most likely. As mentioned above cleaning/lubrication and new belts will fix most issues.
