All of a sudden I have the most bizarre problem with my 3DFX Voodoo 5500 AGP. I have been using this for some time now and it's been working fine. I recently had cause to re install Windows 98 SE on my PIII system, I have the official V5 drivers installed, like I have done 1000 time before but for some paranormal reason I cannot change screen res higher that 640X480, the slider will not move, also the 3DFX tools state that the highest res possible is 640X480. What am I doing wrong? I just can fathom it.

Any help would be appreciated guys, many thanks.

Try changing the monitor type to Plug and Play monitor 😀

New PC: i9 12900K @5GHz all cores @1.2v. MSI PRO Z690-A. 32GB DDR4 3600 CL14. 3070Ti.
Old PC: Dual Xeon X5690@4.6GHz, EVGA SR-2, 48GB DDR3R@2000MHz, Intel X25-M. GTX 980ti.
Older PC: K6-3+ 400@600MHz, PC-Chips M577, 256MB SDRAM, AWE64, Voodoo Banshee.

THANK YOU!!! sorry for shouting but I'm happy that worked, thanks so much Skyscraper, it's really odd in all my years of playing with old computers I have never had this problem crop up before now but no matter you live and learn. Thanks again mate 😀:):)

I've had this problem happen when using KVM switches. If I start up the computer but the switch is not showing that particular computer during the boot up sequence the monitor defaults to 640x480 with no options. Though, I could probably specifically tell it to always use the particular monitor driver or get a more expensive KVM switch that shares the DCC information.

I also ran this issue on one particular Asus monitor, as well as when I used a video splitter. Good to hear it's sorted 😀
