So have I and while there are some what few there are most are junk or overpriced and not worth the time. Some here happen to live in areas where this stuff grows like grass and streets are paved with gold top pentiums /face palm

Just keep looking or sub in something even if it is not period accurate.

Geforce 256 were not easy to find even a long time ago. If you recall the first models were SDRAM then came the faster DDR variety. Cooling on them sucked (cheap fans) so I expect they died from heat or not too many people bothered to get them till T&L games were common and Geforce 2's were out (or Radeons).

I've been buying job lots of cards for a number of years now and this is the first one i have encountered. I know sometimes it feels like time is running out to find certain items but, as others have said, patience and smart searching are the best way. It's the only way to find popular items for low prices. Ebay listings without complete descriptions and without item names in the heading are how i find most of my stuff and this requires searching through hundreds of ambiguous listings on a daily basis.

Got one last week locally from Asus for €12 including postage, it's the V6600 Deluxe AGP version with box, 3d glasses and manual/drivercds. This is the SDram version so not top of the line but I couldn't let it slip through my fingers for that price 😈

Good news is they have a Yamaha audio chipset, if memory serves right, and they can be plugged into into an external display, and make for a great DOS gaming machine!

That is correct. Although I don't know the exact Yamaha sound chip in it, it's probably something from the YMF71x line, considering it was detected as OPL-SAx. Everything else also works fine and it's in great condition considering it's age. It looks as though it was used for maybe a year and then put aside for a long time. Too bad the screen isn't better, otherwise it would be pretty close to the perfect laptop for 90's DOS games.

As for GeForce 256's, I also got one of those (the DDR version actually, Asus V6800 DDR) in a relatively cheap bundle. The only 3Dfx Voodoo I have was also part of a cheap bundle. That's the only way to find less common hardware for cheap, but it's usually a lot of work and you have to search through lots of listings full of TNT2 M64's and GeForce MX's. Usually when something is very well described and listed properly the sellers know what they have and try to charge as much as possible.

It is and do not try to remove the cooler or you will break it, I had two of this exact card and destroyed one. The thermal epoxy used is very different from the white stuff and it is Strong! Try to remove it and you will crack the plastic encapsulation and kill the gpu. Gateway sold a few of these in their systems but it is made by ELSA (I think) so it is of good quality but still gets scorching hot so just add a fan.

Went scrounging earlier today and found a number of them as Dell versions including a GF3 Ti all for less than $15 usd. There wasn't much else.

No worries there, if it works I let well enough alone. It should compliment by k6-3 nicely

If you freeze the heat sink and or card then that take a screw driver to the card it will come clean off.
I done that plenty of times on 3dfx cards.

Got a few motherboards today. Acer XT mainboard Ebay purchase. The other 2 are Socket 478 533fsb ACER/FOXCONN 651M03-6L, and AMD socket 754 ENERGY SIS760GX-MN.
The last 2 I believe were specifically aimed at the OEM market and not generally available to the public. I bought them mostly for a bit of tinkering, but don't expect overclocking
will be possible. $15 for the both NOS.

That XT clone looks nice, but it appears to only have 576kB RAM (256kx2 + 64k)
