It's probably for a docking station. In those days laptops often had compatible docking stations with full length slots for expansion cards that could be used by the laptop when it was connected. You may want to see if your model ever had one.

it's hard to know, because the edge connector is not exposed, so i don't think it's an option.

also, i've not found a lot of information about this laptop, maybe i don't have searched really well, is an Acer AnyWare k386s, i've read that this model had other names depending on the market, mine is imported from the US i believe.

it has a 386SX-25, 4MB of RAM, an 80MB seagate HDD, floppy drive, 640x480 dstn maybe? grayscale screen and a Cirrus logic CL-GD5420 (acumos avga2 based?)
right now i'm working, but later i will take some pictures of the board and the laptop.

The only laptops I know of that have ISA slots in docking ports are as follows:

1. Thinkpad 350/360/750/755/760 series with either Dock I www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Dock_I_(3545) or Dock II www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Dock_II_(3546) (1 ISA and 2 ISA respectively)

2. Thinkpad 600/770 series with Selectadock I http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/SelectaDock_I (1 ISA), Selectadock II http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/SelectaDock_II or Selectadock III http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/SelectaDock_III (2 ISA).

There may be others, but these are the ones I know of.

forget about docking stations, this one doesn't have that, it has an edge connector in the motherboard and i was wondering if it may be possible to use an standard isa card there

Can you post some pictures of the edge connector?

And what are the currency problems your are talking about? An ISA sound card would have the added benefit of probably adding SoundBlaster compatibility, which the LPT devices won't have.

i do have isa, Soundblaster-compatible cards, i cannot buy something like the opl2lpt or any other lpt sound card because i live in Argentina and the currency conversion is very unfavorable
