Some time ago I won a boxed Digital Venturis 466 system but I have not had the time to open the box until now.

The DEC Venturis 466 is supposedly a 486 DX2-66, AMD or Intel, WB or WT with 128KB L2 cache on the motherboard or (most often) not.

Depending on the case size and riser version the system either supports 3 ISA slots on the riser and a low profile ISA slot directly on the motherboard or 6 ISA slots (5 on a riser and one directly on the board).

The onboard video chip should be a S3 Trio32 with 1MB memory soldered on the motherboard, sometimes with two sockets for upgrading to 2MB.

There are two versions of the motherboard but Im not sure if revison 2 ever was used in the Venturis 466, the only notable difference is that the 2.0 supports 256KB cache and has a 3.3V VRM.

In any case I opened up the box with the system today, when I opened up the case I diddnt find a DX2-66, I found a POD 83! 😀

Inside the Digital Venturis 466, A POD 83MHz and a Sound Blaster 16 SCSI CT1770 sitting on a "version 1.0" motherboard.

Under the SB16 we find a S3 Trio64 chip with 1MB memory and upgrade sockets and also sockets that can hold 128KB cache.

The system was sold as a "1991 386 system", almost correct labelling for a boxed Digital Venturis Socket-3 system with a POD 83 inside 😀

The price was ~33 euro on the Swedish Ebay clone Tradera.

This was one of my first video cards, and I've kept it all these years, but months ago I went searching for it and could not find it. So frusrating! I hope I find it, soon.

Is still remember what dumbass I was 😉 My 3rd video card was Tseng ET4000/w32. I sold it with my 386DX-40. Only to buy 486DX2-80 with ISA bus only and standard Tseng ET4000AX. It was all OK till I loaded Windows 3.1. It was slower then previous 386 🤣

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

Don't see these every day.

Is that a Radeon 9100 PCI? Is it a Visiontek? The Visiontek cards use faster RAM than other 9100's and the cores on most 9100's can be cranked up to 8500 speeds or beyond.

It is a 9100 not sure what make but its a 64meg version, It did not work in my Pentium Pro motherboard but it did work in a socket 370 computer, I might put this in a PCI super socket 7 board but its complete overkill.

Hey, I own that cooler! Mine is blue and branded by cooler master though. I bought it from either zipzoomfly or geeks.com a loooooong time ago. It's universal and a real nightmare to install, had it on a 6600gt for a while.

This is fairly new gear, but I have nothing that is SLI compatible. My only SLI experience is with 3dfx Voodoo 2 cards.

Let me tell you, I never had such a high end board. I always go for very basic and cheap uATX boards, so this was really treating myself 😀

This board is fully XP compatible and supports SLI as well as CrossFire. FX8350 CPU, but I can use my other AM3+ processor as well. And four 4 GB sticks of RAM.

I plan on playing around with SLI, always makes for a good video. Like 7900 GTX SLI for Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow?

Seems like people are gearing up for Oculus Rift.

Meanwhile, I'm gearing up for fun with a 386...

Loi3LUEl.jpg

It's a Compaq Contura 3/25 with a 25MHz 386SL, 4MB RAM, 120MB HDD (noisy as crap but still seems to work fine), a slightly broken keyboard (some of the keys are dead), and, yes, a greyscale DSTN screen. Dead keys aside, everything seems to work fine!

That one vintage computer enthusiast brony.

Nice... I like it, a mini Compaq 386!

Might be worth trying electrical contact cleaner on those keys. If you get the little straw 'extender' for the spray nozzle and skoosh some under or into the key and then tap it repeatedly, or if you can get the key out... same deal but with a cotton swab.

Received my PT-319A 386 motherboard. It has damage from the leaking barrel battery but I hope I can remove the dirt/corrosion and that the motherboard still works. It has the Cyrix Cx486SLC2-MP50 cpu onboard. 🤣

Only other issue I found is that I lack decent vga cards for it. Only isa card I have left is a Trident 9000c with 512kb.. gonna search for a better 1mb graphics card. If anything reasonable priced can be found in Europe then give me a hint. 😀
