That is not a bad case you got there. I might go for one like that the next time I am building a modern workstation. I have been using laptops exclusively the last 10 years as my daily driver. So it might be refreshing to have a workstation instead. But I need more desk space for that.

Ohhh..... I see one tiny design flaw on the Cooler Master HAF XB. If you have an angled ATX Power connector on the top of the mainboard, facing up, then you got a real issue mounting it in that case. What they should have done, is to have the board mounting, shifted all the way to the left of the case (facing from the front of the case). But most ATX boards are not designed with an ATX Power connector in that spot. Actually only a small number. So it is a minor design flaw, that might not be a real issue at all.

There's ample space on the motherboard tray to the front and right side of the case - an angled ATX connector would not be a problem. In fact there's so much space to the front of the case that you can fit an XLATX motherboard in there - well, some will fit anyway - if you remove the two hot swappable HDD cages. The case is extremely well ventilated and the fact that the motherboard is mounted horizontally greatly contributes to good temperatures. I'm running my 3930k @ 4.5GHz cooled by a Thermalright "Le grand macho RT" in my HAF XB and temps are extremely good.

It's interesting how commonly these fail, I have 4 PS/2 systems and all floppy drives still work. Guess I'm just incredibly lucky. If you've got some soldering skill you can replace the caps and have it back up and running easily.

I have done a recap, same behaviour - the drive seeks on boot and spins just never actually reads anything 🙁 I've ordered one of these though now https://texelec.com/product/ibm-ps2-to-standa … floppy-adapter/

The head motor might need a lubrication and an oil job along with a cleaning.

I too have a smelly case, it is starting to wear off after a few months.

Ciggy stick smell is better than ozon smell though.

What brand and model is the PSU?

If it were me, I wouldn't dare use it except for maybe testing unless a full recap was done at a minimum. And even then, who knows if the voltages will be within specifications.

I actually just tested a bunch of old PSUs that I had been saving and 6 of them were no bueno. From completely dead to blown caps to the caps looking fine but the voltages being out of specifications.

I only saved one which was a 650w ToPower unit which I originally bought because it has high amperage on the 5v line. When I hooked it up to my PSU tester, it turned on and immediately popped and started smoking because one of the caps caught fire. It did stay powered on though so a recap it shall have.

It doesn't look too bad.

After being quite impressed with the Moukey 6 channel mixer i decided to pick up the 4 channel one for my Pentium machine in the Prime sale. Really impressed with it for £18!
