The guy with the DFI LGA775 with the ISA said that Intel 865 and 875 are the last chipsets that support proper ISA DMA, while for example industrial boards with Intel P35 chipset wont work properly.. Meaning anything newer then 875 chipset wont work good. Guess having LGA1366/ 1156 with ISA wont be any good..

motherboard makers: we will create newer LGA775 boards with ISA slots for industrial purposes.
retro HW enthusiasts be like: hold mah ISA audio cards >>>

If is me i wont use Voodoo V 5500 on LGA 775... Better to use instead GEforce VII 7950 GX2......

That bastard with the 700$ 775 board wants arm and leg for it... This is why thrift stores, local AD sites and local recycling centers are best, fuck ebay...

As far as Win9x/AGP is concerned I feel my A64 3700+ basically maxes it out with an X800XTPE despite single channel ddr on S754 but I guess if you really want UNLIMITED POWA the S939 it is..

Never saw LGA775 with ISA.. does it even do proper DMA etc?

This one's even got DDR3 https://www.ebay.com/itm/284532288399?hash=it … 3sAAOSwXsdhlMqQ

This one has AGP, it would go nicely with Voodoo 5 https://www.ebay.com/itm/275031139204?hash=it … HkAAOSwnVxhlNYh

At 700 USD you would have to really fucking want these boards .. they costs more than a Voodoo5, I get that they have ISA but at this price they are clearly intended for industrial buyers or people with more money than sense.

Yeah, which really drives my point home that there's a lot of scalping going on.

Look carefully at its AGP: it's the late 1.5V model, while Voodoo 5 requires 3.3V AGP.

AFAIK Voodoo 4 is the only universal AGP Voodoo card with both 3.3V and 1.5V keys.

No, dormcat is right. I made a silly mistake, I didn't pay attention and notice it was a 1.5V AGP slot. Sorry, I was just so tired yesterday.

When think about it is really dumb from 3Dfx to have made Voodoo IV having universal AGP slot, and yet the Voodoo V does not have wtf is wrong with these ppl.... Sure where i will use Voodoo V card is some mobo with universal AGP slot, but maybe was going to better if they made both 4 and 5 with universal, or non...

I'd like to ask you which tool do you use to safely remove the usual heatsink plastic clips from any board without risking the close smd components or breaking some pcb traces. I wonder if there're some useful tool to safely push them and remove the usual old chipset or gpu like heatsinks.

Thanks

Vintage market 2022 July. Regarding retro computing, it was very disappointing. All I bought was the Frozen Throne expansion for WarCraft III. CD is in flawless condition, came with a manual. Otherwise the only mildly interesting vintage computer stuff I found was this:

To me radio pliers and work the best. Some people says ballpoint pens also work, but you need one with a big enough hole and metal head (or whatever it's called where the tip comes out from.)

Yah, the hole is the right size in a classic Bic, but they only last a couple or three uses before they split. Possibly the papermate stick pens, you could pull the end off, take the ink refill out of it, invert the end and use the back of that, which probably isn't real easy to grip, but it won't be as splitty. The bic pen gives you the size you're looking for though in a durable form. Maybe if a quarter inch drive bit set came with some small sockets that are deep enough, those would work. I had one nut driver I was using at one point, but I didn't make note of the size and can't find it lately.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

It is an SMC Elite 16 Ultra (8216). I've got the drivers and manual archived here:
https://ftp.zx.net.nz/pub/drivers/SMC/Elite16/

ether.exe should contain the latest drivers. If those don't work there is an older version in the 'old' subdirectory plus some other misc drivers and other bits described by the README file.

I have a boot ROM which may work for these cards too but at present no way of dumping it - really need to get myself an EPROM programmer.

Bought this NVME enclosure "Plugable USB C to M.2 NVMe Tool-free Enclosure USB C and Thunderbolt 3 Compatible up to USB 3.1 Gen 2 Speeds (10Gbps). Adapter Includes USB-C and USB 3.0 Cables (Supports M.2 NVMe SSDs 2280 2260 2242)" to see about replacing the "SAMSUNG FIT Plus 128GB - 400 MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive (MUF-128AB/AM)" that replaced the 512mb DOM in my QNAP nas. Hoping I can use this to put the system dataset on it, if not then may put TrueNAS on the Fit and keep this connected for the dataset.

This would potentially eliminate having to use "QNAP QM2-2P-384 M.2 to PCI Express Adapter" or I can use that for other uses. A special vdev, vms, etc.

Until I get my QNAP back from offsite currently playing with it hooked up to my old Q9650 and installing the latest Fedora on it to boot from (USB2) which takes 2-3 minutes....
Fedora shows Average Read rate of 39.3MB/s with an average access time of 0.37msec in the disk benchmark tool.

The internal Samsung 860 EVO M.2 1TB connected via SATA gets 275.4 MB/s read with a 0.06 msec access time.

Boot time with the below was normal on all three so likely Fedora not optimized for booting via USB2

First time I've attempted a Dallas bodge/repair today and it's worked really well! (I've since put a blob of glue on the connections to give a bit more strength)

Today I managed to fix the right ADB port in my AEK II, which means that the weird issues that I was having with my mice has gone away. I guess that, over the course of 30 years, the solder got weak enough that transporting the keyboard would break it. Luckily, that is the only problem this keyboard has after I went in and cleaned the ever loving crap out of the alps switches inside. And, thanks to my ADB wombat, I am using the ADB mouse and keyboard on a modern macintosh to write this message. I love the future.

Sell them to a C64 user.

or donate them if I can find someone locally who uses 360k floppies.

Is there some open or is it a sealed pack? If there's some loose, you could punch the HD notch out and see if they format reliably as 1.2MB ... many people did this back in the day, when 360kb quality got more reliable. Need branded disks rather than generics most likely. Should be good enough for "working copies" of treasured originals at least, even if you have to redo them every once in a while.

These arrive today and there is only one difference between these and other HD 1.2mb disks I have ..these have the hub ring that low density disks have, but aside from that there is already a HD notch.

Could it be that these are 1.2mb disks simply formatted to 1S/2D ?

They are Verbatim Disks so Im just going to format one of them as a 1.2mb disk and see what happens.

Oh noes, the cap let the shmooo out 😁
