Hi All,

I’ve got a 486SPM motherboard and just put in an AMD-X5-133ADW. As per the link below I have set jumpers to 3.3v / CPU type AM486DX4-SV8B and CPU speed to 33mhz. Motherboard boots up fine and works perfectly. Question I have is that it is running at 100mhz, will it be safe to up the CPU speed to 40Mhz so it can run at 120mhz? I also just purchased a Heatsink and fan

Hi Ceasar,

Yes, any Am5x86-133 CPU can be run at 120Mhz by setting it to 3 x 40.
But 133MHz (4 x 33) is of course the optimum setting.
On the Chaintech 4SPM, I believe JP41 is the multiplier jumper and has to be set at 2&3 for Am5x86 x4 mode. All other Am5x86 jumpers settings are the same as for an Am486DX4-SV8B.

Let us know how this works and if not, which BIOS version you have on the 486SPM.

Hi Jan,

That JP41 did the trick, cpu is correctly shown and running at 133. now just to find a case to stick it.
