Hi everyone,

I got myself the XGECU TL866II Pro to flash one or two bios images for my old 386 board (https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/gemlight-gmb-386umc). The problem is, I can read the EPROM but while trying to flash, I will always get an error. I am sure I am doing something wrong and thus I hope someone can help me. I do have some original AMI bios chips with apparently different images and I believe that those chips are: L27C512. I have therefore selected this IC in the XGECU and it listed several manufactures, I have chosen some (some returned straight error during read). After reading I have loaded the bin file from the link to the mobo and started to flash, but I always get something like:

ERROR! Address:0x008150 Buffer Data:0x44 Verify:0x00

now I am lost. Dont know how to proceed. Any advice?

thank you, Tomas

I have no personal experience with programming UV erasable chips, but it seems they have to be erased prior to being flashed?

Yes, you are right. I have the ones without the window, okey, ebay 😀
thank you for your reply, at least I know now, from reading the EPROMs I have that none of them matches the BIOS I need.

edit: nope, there is the window, under the sticker 😁

thx, tomas

you dont need special UV lamps to erase 27C chips, nail polish hardening led one stolen from wifey will do 😀 or just put it in the sun for a couple days (obviously not in the open weather)

Those water purification lamps, (UVC lamps) also work.
as for the couple of days... seems highly dependent on size, technology and sunshine ( https://goughlui.com/2016/09/11/experiment-ti … by-uv-lamp-sun/ )
6 days for an 8KiloByte chip and over 3 months for a 1MegaByte chip.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

I have one sterilization lamp that I have bought during the COVID - just from curiosity... will try that one if there will be some time.

thx for the tips!
