So I’ve had some nostalgia with my PII300MHz mATX build.. But now looking for my next more permanent retro build, I will base it on a Via C3 1.2GHz Nehemiah CPU, in a mid tower ATX case. Chose this CPU due the ability to slow down for the DOS games. But also play Win9x games. Also I couldn’t find a 1.4GHz variant for sale anywhere.

I have the following Slot1/Socket370 boards.
Asus P3V 4X (rev 1.02)
MSI MS-6309 (V2.1)
Jetway J-9ZXAN
Gemlight GMB-P6BIAK V0

Which would be the better one to use? Unsure if the last 2 are capable.

If I need a Slocket I have the following: Abit Slocket!!! AB-FC370 and Gigabyte GA-6R7+
If those don’t would the following work? https://www.ebay.com/itm/144810796158

I will be moving my Labway A151-A00 (YMF719E-S) ISA sound card to this PC. I will be getting a Dreamblaster S2 to use with it.
For Sound Blaster 16 I have a Sound Blaster CT4810 PCI, will that work in DOS also?

Otherwise I have the following also, but will need 2nd ISA slot.
CT4500
CT4520

I will be using a Voodoo2 (PCI) for dos/windows Glide, and either a Geforce2 GTS or Riva TNT2 M64..(both AGP) Should I get something beefier?

Finally the MS-6309 mainboard caps look a bit dodge. Will need a recap I guess..

Both Abit Slocket!!! AB-FC370 and Gigabyte GA-6R7+support the last generation Coppermine cpu's. The SP 370 slotket on Ebay is an earlier model designed for 66mhz Celeron.
Re Motherboard: my vote goes to the Asus P3V 4X (rev 1.02).

Doesn’t Nehemiah require Tualatin compatible slotket or modding those Coppermine slotkets, though?

GeForce 2GTS definately is strong enough for this build. If you have one laying around, a good Gf4 Ti would be nice too. It's way too new for this build to be period correct but certainly will make you get out every bit the cpu power. And gives you higher resolution on lots of genres ofc.

I'd skip the M64 to be honest, for this build it will feel like a dud. That's something you'd put in a cost cut Celeron 333 system with 64MB ram and lame pc chips motherboard.

Voodoo 2 will give you Windows 3dfx support but the nGlide will do that as well on those better GeForce cards. That would be a little easier on the wallet if you don't already have the Voodoo. But it will render out DOS 3dfx if I'm not mistaking, anyone can tell here?

Stuck at 10MHz...

No, it works with slotket adapters that supports Coppermine CPUs right out of the box.

Great thanks, will use the Asus P3V 4X with Abit Socket!!!, I will update to the latest BIOS. however I did come across these BIOS's Modified BIOSes for ASUS P3B-F, P3V4X, P3V133, CUBX, CUBX-E/L and P3C-E
are these suggested? What is a "crisis recovery procedure". does it mean have a working BIOS chip to replace should anything go wrong, or have an out of socket BIOS re-programmer for recovery?

Yes, I'm currently using the latest modded ASUS P2-99 BIOS from him.

That's just in case something goes wrong either during or after the BIOS flashing procedure, but don't worry much about that.

Socket 370 is out of my reach especially tualatin compatible. I have a gigabyte slot 1 board with universal agp, compatible with 866mhz 133 MHz fsb Pentium iii. Looking to marry it with 5900xt but doesn't have sblink nor isa slot. Looks like an OEM board for advent with solder points for unpopulated isa. Don't know if it's a side grade from current piii 700mhz + ymf744 sblink + voodoo 3 2000

Does anyone know what other mainboards are ideal for the Via C3 Nehemiah cpus? May get one just as a backup for the future.

The Gigabyte GA-6XBC rev 2.0 with PowerLeap BIOS, based on the Intel 440BX chipset (which doesn't officially support 133 MHz FSB) and one of these that has the 50 MHz FSB setting.

Performance-wise, it is a side-grade. The VIA C3 Nehemiah 1.2A being comparable to a PIII-750, but the main point here is around the flexibility they have (even better with a motherboard where the FSB can be changed either thru software or BIOS) when slowing down the computer to deal with speed-sensitive software.

I'm currently testing to do a similar biuld. I'm cheaping out though, as I currently only have a Intel branded 440BX board, and a OEM VIA Apollo 133 as a fall back option.
I have been getting a lot of helpful advice from the VIA initiated on the forum.
