Apologies for this silly question, just want to double check before I order the wrong thing.

I have an old PC case from 1998 that has screw holes for fans that are 70mm apart. Can you assume a 80mm fan has 70mm screw holes?

I'm assuming the measurements are like the following?

The standard mounting hole C/C for 80mm fans is 71.5 mm, so I'd suspect a measurement error, but that's close enough even if your measurement is correct. You can always use M3 screws and nuts if the hole pattern is too tight for fan/M4 screws 😀

Yes they measure fans on the outside, those usually use those "coarse threaded" M4 type screws that come with said fan but not always...

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

There are some alternatives to these screws.
Someone can use these rubber "screws" that were used by noise silencing kits.
