Hello, is there a way to play Midi files in Vista using General Midi instead of Wavetable synthesis? I use a Creative XFI Extreme Music sound card running the latest drivers and software.

It was very easy to change the midi device under XP but under Vista Home Premium 32bit, there does not appear to be such an option 🙁 is this because of the removal of direct hardware access in Vista?

I don't have Vista, and can't confirm the effectiveness of this: Vista Midi Out Solution Discovered!!!

There is a fair amount of info online about which registry keys to alter for the default midi out device in Vista, but it's probably easier to use one of several small freeware apps that have been made for the purpose: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio … DI-Picker.shtml
