Hi there

I'm working on a new RPG game with CGA composite in mind.

I follow this topic to see what will happen to CGA composite on Dosbox.
CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX (Commited r3804)

Now with two CGA composite palette with little differents, I can't decide which CGA composite Old or New I will support with the game.

Please take a look with two screenshots old and new and tell me which CGA composite will fit better in the game.

Any comments are welcomed.

newCGA.png maybe looks a little bit better overall, though I like the orange/yellow decorations in oldCGA.png more.

You're using mode 6 with color 15, right? in that situation there's only a 13-degree hue difference between "old" and "new" CGA cards (as we've found in that thread), so I don't know if the choice of colors has to be so different between the two.

if you want to add an "old school" element to the game, them you could show a hue adjustment screen at startup, like MS Decathlon and that golf game - "Please adjust your hue settings until the colors displayed below match the descriptions", etc. Which DOSBox users can easily do with (alt)-F11. 😉

Both have issues, for instance the blue creeping into the yellow of the banners. That seems a bit worse in the new image than the old, but I'm guessing that could be rectified with more careful pattern choices.

Interested in your reasoning to support composite CGA in a world where VGA is 25 years old.

Here all the colours available on composite cga.

In colour 7, it's a light blue in old composite while the new one the colour iturned into a kind of purple.

Colour 4 is a dark purple on old but it's dark red closer but still dark purple on new. I like it.

The yellow in old became yellow-greenish in new.

can't speak for nikiniki, but some people like a good "retrochallenge" (the fact that there's an annual contest with that title says something).

Agreed, those brick tiles are better-looking now.

Looks like Atari 7800 quality, which is ironic since you also posted this on AtariAge...
