or the 3-letter "wip" term. Try to search just for wip in topic titles, nothing logical is returned. Whereas if you search just for dgvoodoo the threads in question are included.

There is another bug, wonder if anyone else faced it. If I do two or more words search I get some search results, but if I then change display option to "post time" search finds nothing. With one word search it works as expected.

never experienced that. anyway vogons does not offer an option to change settings after a search. you can only do that using "back" button in your browser.
opera/google chrome/firefox/ie works correctly. so it may be some freaking configuration of your browser (try a different computer and/or browser/deleting cookies etc.)

but i guess you are accidentally clicking instead on back you click on advanced search icon which gonna have search box empty hence no search results

It may be indeed my browser. I'm using Firefox.
However vogons actually allows to change settings. Here's what happens. I search for "pcmcia sound". If I pick "post time" and click GO. There will be a message "no results found"
But if I do a search with one word "pcmcia" and then change to "post time"- search will sort the results by post date.

Have you noticed that the "missing" threads are spelled wrongly with only 1 "o"? So term "dgvoodoo" doesn't match, although wip should
dgVodooo 2.7.x and related WIP versions (2)
dgVodooo 2.8.x and related WIP versions

ok, found it, confirming it, it is caused by vogons adding "+" between words

you can just use my method (advanced search with back button) which is not recommended cause of security reasons 😉

... This issue has been reported more than 3 years ago and it troubled me a lot, until I found that Advanced Search worked as intended.

But you said Advanced Search has security issues... what exactly?

You can see my replies about the issue here. Basically you need to replace all the encoded '+' (%2B) in the URL with literal '+' or encoded spaces (%20) and it'll give you expected results.

I have literally never been able to find anything using the vogons search. It brings up everything but what I am searching for or literally nothing at all

Most forum search engines deliberately ignore words less than 3 characters, allegedly to save space in the index (that's what PhpBB, the only one I have direct experience with, says but it's adjustable) – can't say they're totally wrong when, if asked to think of a 3-letter word, I'd say "are" or "and", but iI can confirm it does get really annoying much more often 😀

As for general purpose search engines… good luck, the google (apart from engaging in asshole design since give-or-take google+, which BTW had many technical merits) semi- or outright -officially stated they don't really try to index the whole accessible WWW, Bing is for porn and getting results related only to your location on page 2, DDG is low bullshit in UI but 98% a Bing frontend in content (and also known to be politically biased)…

Bing in 1000 words, note how bold is supposed to mean the matched part of the result:

Another 1000 words, not for the prudish, btw remember the mid 2010s when 2/32GB windows tablets were cool?
