Hello,
maybe there is a thread on this topic - please let me know.
I am searching for programs to alter the look of my Windows 98 Desktop. The Plus! Themes are not what i am looking for.
I remember a program i used last year - with that i could change the look of the taskbar to windows xp and other themes. It also gave me transparent icon names... and so on... BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER THE DAMN NAME of that prog.
So how do you theme your windows 98? what kind of progs you are using?

Ya found that too when searching. Never heard of it before. Any comments on windowblinds?

Btw: what is the latest version of windowblinds that supports Windows 98? On oldapps I found the 5.01... but not sure.

In case of visual styles, there also was Illumination..
Just tried it out a few days ago when I saw it being mentioned at Wikipedia.

Sure, no problem. 😀 Here it is..:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WindowBlinds#Competitors
https://www.webcitation.org/query?url=http:// … -10-25+09:52:54

However, some of the window "styles" are not saved there.
Using Wayback Machine and Copy&Paste of the missing URLs solved that though.

Edit: Here are some pics, too.

Yes, it's dead. On the archived version. The WebCite page hasn't archived it. Wayback Machine should be fine, though.

Here's the link for year 2000 captures:

As for the viruses, I'm not sure what to recommend (sorry 🙁 ). My antivirus (Avira) didn't say a word yet.
However, there's a pop-up (Yahoo ad) that gets blocked by Firefox (see attachment).

The Illumination program itself does work, though.
The previous photos were taken from my Win98SE VM. 😀

I just read something on deskmodding.???. There is a program called bb4win. Unfortunately it is discontinued. They say it is working in Windows 98. Anyone has experiences with that?

bb4win is a shell...Shell swapping is not the same as changing a skin.

To answer your question I don't like black box user interface, I tried it and bblean, I also tried lightstep and all of its spin offs before as well and they just make the computer slower and are buggy.

The best "reskin" is revolutions pack as it adds more stability and doesn't lag the computer, and looks better without functionality loss.
