trying to run this game on a AMD K6-2+/550MHz with both Internal and External caches disabled let's me get into the game but soon locks up hard at certain parts in the game and I have to reset.

Things I have tried:
- disabling both internal and external caches in bios
- disabling both internal and external caches with Setmul instead and lowering the multiplier to 2.0
- Indy4fix.exe patch (supposed to fix problems with fast AMD K6 CPUs)
-fatecd.exe patch (supposed to fix problems with fast Pentium CPUs)
-2 different sound cards, with same result
- I have another DOS pc which is a Pentium MMX 233mhz and the game runs fine on that one with caches disabled using the same sound cards in my K6-2 +

has anybody else had problems with this game still locking up with caches disabled?

The setup:
Soltek SL-54U5 SS7 Motherboard
AMD K6-2+/550MHz
64MB SDRAM
3DFX Voodoo 3 3000 16MB
Sound Blaster AWE64

I used to run Indy with a K6-2 and caches disabled (usually for audio detection). I'd lean towards general stability issues. Any problems with other titles?

hmmm... I haven’t ran into any other problems. Played a lot of Doom and Duke Nukem, also played thru Rise of the Dragon on this system.

also should note I’m trying to play the talkie edition off CD. I tested the floppy version and that seems to run fine.

I also tried DOTT talkie edition which seems to have the same engine as Fate of Atlantis and that locks up too.

maybe its the fact that these games basically play off cd. almost nothing gets installed to HD?

A couple of days someone posted a thread about Monkey Island talkie locking up and that was due to the mouse driver.

come to think of it, when I tested it in my other PC that worked, I was using keyboard only. I think you’re on to something! off to test....

*EDIT*
Yes without the mouse driver the game works perfectly! Looks like my problem is CTMOUSE 1.9.1 and others have had better luck with CTMOUSE 2.04A.

thanks so much for that info and link to the other thread. I’ve been at this for days 🤣.
