By the way, I'm looking for the CD that came with TDK DMC9000. Could someone image it and upload somewhere please?
DMC9000cD.png

Do you need the floppy images as well? I have a CIB TDK DMC9000.

EDIT: Found the answer in the FAQ. No worries, please ignore the question.
http://web.archive.org/web/19991013153624/htt … cab11100.htm#07

cyclone3d, do you have the manual for the DMC9000 by a chance? Mine cane without one, and I could not find it online. I keep getting the error "Timeout of Chip Communication". There sould be something about this on page 99 or 105 depending on the model.
readme file says:
Note: Depending on the model you are using, "Chip Communication" will be displayed when the card is recognized.
The error message "Timeout" may appear.
In that case, refer to the [Operation Manual] attached to the product and use the DMC9000.
Those who have P99 or later, those who have DMC9000PLUS
Please see P105 and later.
Could you help me with this, please.

It's all in Japanese. Looks to be on page 99 though.

I can try to scan it, convert to Word, and then see what the auto translator comes up with.

Ok, so I did the scan/take pics of the pages with info about this error, converted them to editable PDFs, and then translated with Word 2019.

Looks like the instructions say to manually set the I/O ranges of the card in device manager.

I uploaded the translated pages to my Google Drive:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U60jM … LUR?usp=sharing

If that isn't readable enough... it is pretty janky as-is, I have another way to translate that may work out better.

Thank you, cyclone3d. Yes, it’s about I/O addresses. But whatever I do I cannot get it working. Same message every time. I tried it on four different laptops. And start already suspecting thst my card is bad.

Yes, it works great under Windows, but doesn't work for DOS games, under dos it seems it only allow to play wav files on a DOS player.

Made a couple or recordings of PCMCIA MIDI cards. It's E1M1 not because of lack of imagination, but because everyone is familiar with it and can feel the difference right away.

Digital HiNote Ultra was a line of notebook computers from Digital Incorporated, an old player in computers that competed with IBM, HP, Compaq, and some others. They used onboard SB-compatible audio and had PCMCIA slots for add-on cards, but I know of no Digital-branded card for audio that ever came with those notebook computers.

Unfrotunately it seems reading those threads it's not DOS compatible at all 🙁

The AUDIODOC.TXT says otherwise

OPERATING SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS

A separate version of the Audio Support Software is included for
DOS, DOS with Windows, and OS/2. If you intend to use the Audio
Adapter under DOS and OS/2 for example, you will need install the
Audio Support Software twice, once for each operating system.

INSTALLING THE AUDIO SUPPORT SOFTWARE

The instructions in this section explain how you install the
Audio Support Software onto your computer. Note that if you want
to install support for more than one operating environment (DOS
and Windows, for instance), you will need to install the
appropriate audio support software for each environment
individually. Simply repeat the following instructions for each
environment for which you wish to install audio support.

Whenever you type a command, press the Enter key to complete the
operation.

1. Turn on your computer and go to a DOS or OS/2 command prompt
depending on which version of the Audio Support Software you wish
to install.

2. Insert the Audio Adapter Audio Support Software Diskette 3
into drive A (or drive B) of your computer.

3. For: DOS Type:
A:\DOSSETUP
and follow the instructions on the screen.
OS/2 Type:
MINSTALL
switch the source drive to A:, select the PCMCIA Audio Adapter
and click on OK.

The installation procedure copies the appropriate device drivers,
Diagnostics (DOS and OS/2) and Demo (DOS and OS/2) programs, and
sample audio files to the target directory; the procedure also
updates your CONFIG.SYS file.

If you get the drivers in that thread, disk1 is for Win3.1 and disk3 is for DOS.
You'll get digital audio and MIDI in Windows, the DOS drivers are only for compatible software including pcdemo.exe and playfile.exe.
No OPL2 nor anything for DOS games, but you can play native Win3.x games with sound and music atleast.

Thanks, few questions...
What is disk2 for? - It looks like samples only, mainly .SMP files
Can disk1 also be used for win9x?
That sucks, what's the point in having an audio card that supports DOS but only to use the pcdemo and playfile instead of also supporting DOS game?
Do you think this would do a better job in win98 se than onboard laptop sound (ESS Maestro 3) ?

Disk2 must be the samples used by the MIDI synth of the card if it doesn't have an actual wavetable rom I suppose.
Win9.x can use 16 bit drivers, it may be worth a try.

The card was made for business users and I imagine some software must work with it like voice recognition and synthesis, that sort of things, IBM made a few back in the days.

I'm not familiar with the ESS Maestro 3 chip. If you already have the card give it a try.

What laptop would you use it on?

i dont think ive seen it in this thread but EXP computers made a pcmcia game / midi card. Called Midi traveler. I had the the joystick only version for a long time and also wanted to try the midi capabilities. So i was able to snag one recently, but the result wasnt quite what i was expecting.
Some details on that can be found here: General midi mapping of instruments

So the EXP card supports gamepad in dos, win 3.1, 9x, nt. The midi support is 9x only (maybe nt). My issue it seems some program commands dont come through so i plays the wrong instruments.
If anyone has this card I would be interested in their experience.

For anyone who wants to use a PCMCIA card like the Roland above, you can also use them in desktop PCs, via a PCMCIA-PCI adapter card. They don't really manufacture them anymore, but there are a lot of them out there in the wild of the online resellers.
