Hi,
found this card for a really cheap price, but i think its broken.
Tried it in one of my SS7 Systems: Boot and the usual text mode.
But thats it, anything in DOS gave me a blackscreen. Switched to Win 98 SE, standard graphics driver installation.
Tried to install the 6.2 Catalyst, no compatible graphics card found...

Moved over to one of my early Socket A systems. Better in DOS 9 out of 11 tests worked.
But the same on WIn98 SE. Tried two different drivers, an older and a newer one, but no card for installation was found.

This card appears to be rare? Maybe a special driver is needed? Do you know anything about this card?
Thx!

That card looks like a semi-modern chinese knockoff and is not guaranteed to work properly on old hardware. Or well, any hardware in your case.

So this is some sort of "fake" hardware?
Interessting...

We'll find out soon.
Edit:
There is other glue on it, the thermal paste is also very stubborn.

The Mobility Radeon 7500 on a discrete PCI graphics card. Now that's a true Frankenstein card! 😁
PS: yeah, you got screwed!
PPS: awesome Chinese "warranty void" sticker on that GPU. 😁

This is my first time encountering fake hardware. Too bad there is no driver. Doom 1&2, Duke3D, and Quake work on a PC running DOS. Has to be enough. 😉

You can force install specific card model with unpacked driver in Windows 9x. I doubt mobility chip is all that different

Yah, force feed it the driver that matches the chip, probably just a whitelist mismatch on PCI string.

There was another thread somewhere where somebody got one of these. They also had trouble I’m not sure where that thread went, but they eventually ended up returning it I believe and getting a legit card.

I have had very good luck with these

It was a private purchase from an ebay auction. There is no return option. Really not a big loss and a learning experience, I have no experience whatsoever with the Radeon 7 or 8 series. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have fallen for it. My search for a "fast" DOS/Win98 PCI graphics card continues. With the S3 Savage 4 here I'm already close. The TNT2 models are rare and very expensive here, but maybe I'll find something.

The Card should work in Windows 2000/XP, i`m pretty sure it was never meant to run inside a SS7 PC with Windows 98.

If you have 3.3v pci you could spring for a rage xl that also is a modern made card but people are happy with them usually.

The M7-P chip was released back in December 2001 when Win9x was still more common than WinXP; Catalyst 6.2, the last driver supporting this chip, was released as late as February 2005. The chip was designed as an IGP using AGP 4x bus though. The PCB itself was "manufactured" in 2011 when Radeon HD 7500M was around the corner, which didn't make any sense. IMHO the M7-P was recycled from laptops and integrated onto a new PCB to be sold as a "discrete graphics card" to unsuspecting customers.

What does that mean? There is no such thing on eBay and you are still covered by the buyer protection.
If the item was sold as New or Used and you received a fake card, you can open a case and you WILL win it. It's as simple as that.

1 x PLCC-68 / 2 x PGA132 / 5 x Skt 3 / 9 x Skt 7 / 12 x SS7 / 1 x Skt 8 / 14 x Slot 1 / 5 x Slot A

You could try Omega drivers, that member Warlord recommends here: T42 - Mobility Radeon 7500 Driver Help
Anyway, if the card was advertised as a Radeon 7500 (RV200, 2PS-1VS-6TMU-2ROP) and it's populated with a Mobility Radeon 7500 (M7, 2PS-0VS-2TMU-1ROP), it's a scam and I'd give the card back.
