First post, by HangarAte2nds!
I got back into PC gaming a couple of years ago and have been wanting to do some retro builds for some time. I finally have everything I need to proceed with 4 special builds. I am having knee surgery soon and have plenty of time on my hands to play with old junk.

DVD RW
USB
Ethernet (has a special, quasi PCIe 1x slot just for the ethernet adapter !)
I have numerous PCI and AGP cards from the late '90s and early '00s so with 3 and 4, I am just going to see what works best. It will be neat playing Quake III arena online with period hardware, without period dial-up lag. The adapter could actually be on the gigabit standard since this was originally like a $15k PC but at least 10/100. All this is stuff I missed out on the first time around due to financial constraints. There are about 3 whole years worth of games around the millennium I missed and there are a lot of classics I haven't played since the '90s. Once these are done, I will be looking to recreate the first PC I built:
486DX2-66 at 83MHz
Genuine intel baby AT MB
28MB RAM
Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM PCI 4MB
SB 16 (without bugs)
Creative 4x CD-ROM
15" Trinitron monitor
Creative Multimedia Speakers
I also built an XP rig recently:
P4 650 HT
Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2
4GB DDR2-533
GeForce 7800GT
128GB SSD
DVD Super Multi
Early '00s Emachines tower case
