Just seeing what appears to be random results each time I run the config tool on how many modes are supported. Also the PC Player 640x480 benchmark flickers or rolls for a lack of a better term. Just checking to see if this was anyone else’s experience. I’ve tried a couple different versions but I’m currently running 6.53 for dos as it seems to be the latest build to support the ARK.

Thanks for the reply Warlord! I’ve actually seen the half screen issue in Quake. I reran the SDD config tool to resolve in my case. I’ve got The extra 1MB installed but now wondering if I’ve got the right type of ram installed.

Try using UniVBE 5.3a, sometimes the later versions aren't always the best one especially for very old video cards.

With 5.3a I get screen rolling with vid_mode 11 “320x200” in Quake.

Did you try running UNICENTR that comes with UniVBE? Seems to be related to the refresh rate and that utility has some keys to adjust that with "-" and "+" keys even though on lower resolutions it doesn't get mentioned.

Yes great suggestion, 320x200x8 seems fine in unicentr 53a.

Nice! With that change saved after quitting UNICENTR, Quake should run fine with vid_mode 11 from now on when using UniVBE.

Edit: Now that I'm seeing that photo displaying the problem with Quake (which I didn't see before and you added it minutes later 😜), does typing vid_wait 0 or 1 on the console mitigates that? The first one causes tearing and the second causes to wait for vertical sync which is slower though.

Yah sorry should of been more clear, unicentr seems fine at the same resolution and Quake is not fine, with SDD UniVBE 5.3a. If I use 6.53 Quake is fine but then 640x480 resolutions have issues 🤣. Just curious if it was just me with this oddness.

Yes I think I’ve gone down a similar path of googling and the vid_wait option made no difference. Thank you for the suggestion, I really thought I had something when I found that one as well.

Since UniVBE can be unloaded via command line switch, an easy workaround would be using 6.53 for Quake (and other games that could have similar problem) and 5.3a for other games assuming that they work fine.
