I've checked that Rendition Veritè cards handle extremely bad Mode Y and Mode X video modes (testing FastDoom). More than I thought, is even worse than the Cyrix MediaGX integrated VGA core.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6unNuPympE4

  • Mode Y: 14.446 fps
  • Mode 13h: 59.150 fps
  • Mode VBE2 (LFB, PM): 305.446 fps

Yah it’s effin terrible, is there any kind of work around for this? What about Doom 95? Love the id family portrait in the background!

Just got around to testing FastDoom. You can play Doom at quite fast speeds on your Rendition Verite based card. The difference is incredible.

Thanks to Viti95 for this! It’s quite an accomplishment.

POD100(40*2.5)
1024k L2
Diamond Stealth S220 flashed with latest bios.

Doom demo1: 4757 realtics “no fps given 🤣
Doom 13h demo1: 1739 realtics 34.208 fps
Doom vbr demo1: 962 realtics 62.106 fps

Now if we could get this for Dark Forces!

Any know why Descent 2 has this purple hue going on? Everything else I’m playing looks fine.

Hi all.

icr2_rendition_elkhart.jpg?ssl=1

That is 200p software, 480p software, Rendition with the non-Rendition track and Rendition with the Rendition track.

I just wanted to say thanks so much for sharing information, etc, in this thread. And to Vogons for the drivers. It's allowed me to use and test the hardware I couldn't dream of affording to buy back then (my first GPU was a voodoo2 a couple of years later I bought for Grand Prix Legends).

I have a Rendition card now working in a virtual machine using PCI passthrough. With Hyper V you can passthrough a GPU from host to VM and I am doing that with a PCI to PCIE adapter in a Windows 10 machine. I did a writeup on IndyCar Racing II here: https://racesimcentral.net/indycar-racing-ii- … ion-experience/

There's also a 35min video showing Rendition in action at all the ICR2 tracks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0D-JE0WY1Do

The only thing I haven't see much of in this thread is about heat and the lack of active cooling on Rendition cards. I had lockups and putting a fan next to it to blow the hot air away got rid of those.

Just, thanks so much for this, I really enjoyed doing the learning required to get this working.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks for posting! Honestly there isn't enough info on VOGONS for setting up PCI passthrough from a VM to a vintage videocard (or soundcard, or...) - I guess it crosses too many boundaries between VOGONS proper and its Marvin subforum? I dunno! A thread on how to set up a VM to do that could be appreciated here, I don't remember it being discussed too many times, except in passing...

I found it really relatively straightforward.

This is the exact adapter used to convert PCIe to PCI: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0024CV3SA/
The card is a V2100 PCI. I do have a V2200 AGP but could NOT get that to work. Whether that was the adapter (PCIe to AGP) I tried, I don't know. I'm wary of trying again as the AGP adapter was $80 down the drain.

The Hyper-V VM can't see the video card as a GPU until you have the Microsoft Basic Display Driver installed on the host, and are getting output from Windows 10. Once you have that, the VM can see it and you are good to go.
https://searchvirtualdesktop.techtarget.com/t … op-with-Hyper-V

I am intending to just build a retro machine at some point, probably a Win98 machine on a Pentium 4. Mainly because when the V2100 would overheat and the VM locked up, so did the host OS. It freaked me out. A fan blowing the hot air away *did* stop it locking up, but I don't want to expose my current tech.

Where did you buy the PCIe-AGP adapter and do try the adapter with a Voodoo AGP card. some comments indicate that those cards don't use the AGP features and just use it as a faster PCI bus which allows them to work with such adapters.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

Found that
EF2000 seems comes with latest spd3d.uc (spd3d.uc inside contains header with "ELF" that reminds me apps on linux same or almost same header. Rendition developers is linux funs)))? all dos games comes with spd3d.uc so that means its dynamically linked as for example glide2x.ovl in dos 3dfx?

thare is Nascar2 demo that also have rendition support

there is rumors that if you copy spd3d.uc as spd3d.uc2 it allows you run on v2200 , need to check.

Formula 1 contains weird file winspd3d.uc

by googling "spd3d.uc" you can quickly find games , they all already documented here

tomraider demo can be played with verite card, its can be found on 3d blaster pci diver bonus disk

i also found sp3d3.voh file, looks like source code, or decompiled, in non readable or understanding form (

another idea is to change spd3d.uc from another game to descent2 , so maybe it fix purple color on s220 video card

I would consider SPD3D.UC and GLIDE2X.OVL to be dissimilar. The .UC microcode is included within each game, whereas the .OVL is bundled with 3dfx's driver releases, not with games.
I consider the GLIDE2X.OVL to be a "driver", but the .UC not so.

Which brings me onto my (long-winded) question also related to the Rendition version of EF2000 ...
In the past, I have been able to run the Rendition version of EF2000 V2.0 on my V1000-E under MS-DOS 6.22, even though EF2000's readme states that the accelerated versions will only work correctly under a Win95 DOS box. Although the Rendition and 3Dfx installers will only run under Win9x, I've been able to install these, then copy these to a DOS-only installation and run under 6.22.
However, I'm now having difficulty running the Rendition version without it immediately crashing. I'd like to swap out the SPD3D.UC for another to see if I can resolve it.
As I've mentioned, this is usually included with a game, not a driver, so it may not be straight-forward to replace.
I know the SPD3D.UC is not included with my driver releases, neither in Creative's 3D Blaster PCI drivers (3dpw95r5.exe), nor Rendition's 2.1 beta2 reference drivers (V1K_B2_1.ZIP). There are however, two files in each driver release - V10002D.UC and V10003D.UC. Could one of these be renamed to, and used as SPD3D.UC? Or are these for Win9x only?

I've already posted about this but I figured id try my luck here since you guy seem to know your stuff when it comes to rendition cards.

Does anyone happen to have the drivers for this card , I've tried other ones but my pc locks up when going into the display settings in win98se.

A picture of the top of the card could be interesting. The only reason it locks up using the driver is that the card is somewhat a non standard V2200 (quite unlikely) or that the card is sadly not working.
Does it works fine in dos?

Here's a picture of the top , I guess I could try vquake in 98 dos mode and see what happens.

Uhm other than the red pcb the layout seems quite standard, I wonder what is the 4 pin near the bracket.
Use Vquake to test it on dos with the rendition api.

Well I ran vquake 95 and I think its working , there were less resolution options and the textures seemed alot smoother , so I'm guessing it worked?

So apparently it works fine.
It's some time I don't mess with my rendtion cards but I clearly remember that when windows driver are installed there is a windows reg key that set the memory and vga clocks, it could be that the card is rated for lower clocks? Imho it's a cheap chinese rebrand, there is no any sign of existence of those card anywhere in the web.
How much ns are rated the sgram? They should be 8ns.
The standard clock for the card should be 55\111 gpu\memory

It was made by a motherboard company called ACHITEC , they popped up around 1994 as a division of qualitek who are still around afaik , but achitec was defunct by like 2001 and the website domain got sold off , no one archived the driver zips unfortunately.
That's kinda why I chimed in here in case someone had a copy on hand from back in the day.
Ill have to get some better pics of the ram , but yeah ill try what you said and downclock it , see if that helps.

So yeah the card just decided to start working for some reason , maybe there was some conflict going on , who knows.
