Hi guys,
I've owned this card for a few years now, but haven't been able to get it working properly.
I want to experience the Sensaura technology for surround sound over headphones or quad speakers that it offers.
The only driver I could find is version 2008 (4.12.01.2008 Windows 9x or filename mx400_win9x_2008.exe).
However, just like with Aureal's 2048 drivers, Diamond seems to have made their later drivers worse/broken them.
For instance, no matter what volume is set using the mixer, it always plays at 100%.
In posts on various sites people mentioned that the only drivers that really worked for them with this card were the original ones from the CD.
Driver version should be 2004 or filename mx400_9x_2004.exe.

Checked several websites, but no luck - any archives containing this driver seem to be broken/incomplete.
Checked Diamond's website via Wayback Machine, but could only find the newer driver + the uninstall routine for the old driver (which is already available on Vogons Drivers).

I've seen a few eBay listings where the card is being sold along with the CD and kindly asked the sellers to create an ISO image and upload it somewhere, but have had no success thus far.
Also wrote an email to the support team at Diamond multimedia (a long shot, I know), and they couldn't help either - the new company just bought the brand and have nothing to do with the original Diamond.

So, if anyone could please check if they have this CD or drivers and upload it somewhere, I would be very grateful.
It feels like this card could sound awesome with proper software.
For instance, once you enable 3d audio in Unreal Tournament and start scrolling through the menus, you can hear that the rear surround channels are very close to the listener (unlike with Aureal cards, where those menu sounds come from farther back and are quieter).

Thank you!

I'll take a look this evening. I do have an MX400 and I know I at least downloaded all the drivers I could find for it but not sure if I have a CD or not.

Try this page. It has a link to a CD ISO but it isn't clear weather or not it is for the Mx400:

Hi cyclone3d,
thank you.
That ISO contains drivers for one of the older Monster Sound cards, since files on it are dated between April 1997 and April 1998.
It seems that the MX400 was released late 1999/early 2000.

This forum post: https://www.phantom.sannata.org/viewtopic.php … 14bcff8#p224391
and the reply indicate that the 2004 version of the drivers are at http://www.helpdrivers.com/sound/ESS/Monster_Sound_MX400/ - but they want 4.95 euros for the privilege 😜
(I'd buy it for the good of the cause and offer it to the forum/VOGONSDrivers for free, but I am a little light on cash right now...)

The filesize on that URL does not match, so even if it is the 2004 version it's not complete.

The best would be if someone provided/uploaded an image of the CD.

If they ZIP-compressed the exe, it's possible that 7.1 MB could be derived from 7.43 MB... Anyhow, 4.95 euros for a single file (that used to be free) would be a heck of a risk! 😉

I'm not sure how to upload to Vogon Drivers, but I found a CZech CD ISO of PC World July 2000 on Archive.org that had this file on it.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1e71pj4kbxwclhp/mx4 … x_2008.exe?dl=1

EDIT: NM, I just noticed you had this driver in the original post.

I just went down this rabbit hole. Turns out someone uploaded this ISO to VOGONSDrivers too:

The helpdrivers.com page is all I got so far...

Found the 2004 driver set on:
ftp://retronn.de/mirrors/ftp.dyu.edu.tw/stuff … /Diamond/MX400/

According to the readme files, these are version 1.00 of the web release.

Attaching the 9x and NT drivers here:

Edit:
Here are the A2D Support Files v3.12:
http://vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=173&menustate=0

And here are some more Canyon 3d based card drivers... should be early versions:
https://www.mrwebman.com/fx1/files/computer/d … 20Five%20Sc988/
https://www.mrwebman.com/fx1/files/computer/d … 20System%20DMX/

That site actually has a few drivers I have not been able to find anywhere.... I'm going to have to download everything very soon.

Winner! 😁

[EDIT] Hang on, this isn't the "correct" filesize of 7-ish megabytes (as vetz and I mention above)... looks like it is indeed drivers tho... hmm...

[EDIT] Neither is mx400_nt_40287.exe the "correct" filesize of 1.37 MB: https://web.archive.org/web/20010414031108/ht … ter_Sound_MX400

[EDIT] https://www.helpjet.net/Fs-38104452-68588361-20691386.html and http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/62/62810.htm profess to have the same file, helpjet's for sure is the "correct" 1.37 MB filesize. Time to see what the difference is compared to the other one you found...

[EDIT] Beats me but it seems not in the compressed driver files, 7zip claims that both mx400_nt_40287.exe's contain the same 2,406,420 bytes of compressed files. So the difference must be in the installer?

[EDIT] My preferred compressed file disassembler (UniExtract) hit problems with your ftp.dyu.edu.tw file mx400_nt_40287.exe - "Unexpected end of archive" - your file was corrupt! So the size difference for mx400_9x_2004.exe is probably the same...

[EDIT] Confirmed, both these files are corrupt. Might be able to extract something out of it, but it isn't complete.

[EDIT] Attached not corrupt mx400_nt_40287.exe from helpjet.net

[EDIT] Pointless note, but recompressing mx400_nt_40287.exe+mx400_nt_40287.txt (1.38 MB) as a Best compressed ZIP yields a file that is 1.347 MB. So shrinking a file that is 7.43 MB as an EXE to 7.1 MB as a ZIP is definitely possible. Even if "only" the same compression ratio as mx400_nt_40287.zip, it would shrink to 7.26 MB...

Back to the drawing board, helpdrivers.com seems to possibly be the only source of the 7-ish MB file so far...

Bummer.
I contacted a person on eBay that is selling one with the CD for a crazy price and he said he is not home for a few weeks so he can't make a copy of the CD and upload it.

I'll check my ftp downloads folders when I get home. Pretty sure I downloaded directly from ftp.dyu.edu.tw. If we are lucky, I will have an uncorrupted copy.

Edit: making notes for myself for later:

Wow, thank you all for the effort!
I'm sure we'll get there eventually.

I've tried to extract the contents of mx400_9x_2004.exe and there indeed seems to be a lot of files missing.
For now, moving on to drivers for other similar sound cards.
Trying out different options won't be a problem - a ghost image of the system is created (with just the sound card driver missing).

Edit: Drivers for the Terratec DMX installed just fine (DMX_App_Drv_VXD_4.06.00.806B.exe). Unfortunately, they seem to suffer from the same problem: once you start a game with 3D audio, it disregards the volume settings and is simply too loud/boomy. Will now try to find an older driver for one of these Canyon3d cards.

OK guys,
I bit the bullet and bought the drivers from helpdrivers.com.
Will test now and report.

Edit: Aaaand it's a dud.
If I try to force the installation of the "Device Enumerator" component via the "I have a disk" option, it keeps throwing up BSODs about VxD driver errors.
At this point, I really think that the only viable option would be to find an ISO image of the original CD.

That sucks. Can you see which driver version was included? Any files that are missing that you can tell? We should be able to compare using the corrupt file.
