Been meaning to create a thread for some time, it's just nice to have somewhere to organize my thoughts that doesn't have to be an image, a video, fit in 140 characters, or require me to setup YET another instance of WordPress.

Here's a few pics I took this past Halloween

So my latest past time is RetroPC Drag Racing... I saw a couple of videos from VWestlife and his ultra fast booting 1000RL . So I came up with a rudimentary way of timing boot times of various boot-from-rom Tandy 1000s that I have, and this was the first attempt..

So at 1.92 seconds, is this the record holder for fastest booting x86 machine? Well, maybe.

I'm coming up with a more reliable testing protocol which deals with a few more variables, and I hope to get some solid data soon!

People who lag test displays use 900fps or something cameras. Maybe get one of those?

I also don't think the floppy LED activating is a particularly rigorous method of time alignment

i agree. Adrian's digital basement recommended I hook up an incandescent bulb to the power strip, and use the first frame I see it light up to start timing. That should be a good way of minimizing some variability.

I'm sure someone is going to break the record any day now, as there are a few highly modified 1000SLs out there.

Remember, you gain 1 nanosecond for every foot of power cord you eliminate! 🤣

Edit: alternately, have the filament lamp on a 100ft extension cord coiled up out of sight, 100ns free headstart! 🤣 that's cheating though.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
