The limit is socket 370 board price, not really the differential. Many people will buy a slot 1 440BX board with a cheap PII 333-400 as there are plenty of those around and find out they can plug in a much better CPU if they get that damn slotket. At that point they have the choice of buying a new socket 370 board or a slotket. Slotkets have a much lower chance of failure than a new board. If the current board is stable and name brand, they may prefer a slotket over a new generic socket 370 board with VIA chipset. They will have to pay premium price for slotket as there are no good alternatives.
