Tried Fitzquake 0.75 but getting no music. Got the actual mp3/ogg files under directory quake/id1/music but makes no difference. Under XP with Quakespasm this works ok.
Is there another win98 port that would work better?

Hmmm, no *.exe file in quakespasm 0.85.9 at least that I could find. Latest Quake spasm works great
in winxp though. Probably going to start looking for actual game cd at goodwill and etc.

Try QDOS/QWDOS, it's also less intrusive in terms of extra features and files, unlike Quakespasm.

P.S. quakespasm-0.93.1_windows.zip works in Windows 98 as well (with KernelEX).

Awesome, many thanks! What I got was from a compression file format I never seen before "tdz" whatever that is.
7zip opened/extracted it ok but no exe file was in it.

Will look into Qdos/QWdos also now that you got my curiosity, thanks!

buckeye: I don't know what kind of shenanigans you have on your PC, but I would advice you unpack it on some other one, since that is totally ordinary ZIP archive, and there's definitely exe file included.

The one you linked me to extracted fine no problem. The one I got came from the source directory:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/quakespasm/files/Source/

I just saw version 0.85.9 there and jumped on it, must be for programmers/developers only.

buckeye: yeah, that's why I linked already compiled version. Please, let me know, if it solves your music issue.

leileilol: sure, but why bother, when you just can grab older SDL1 release?
