That old DOS War Horse Blood is finally working near perfect under DosBox 0.70

I say near perfect, as I am unable to get the cut scenes to play.

I have copied them locally to my hard drive and have amended the Blood.ini file to show their location, but every time I load the first level, it skips straight into the game play. I have tried all the points at which the cut scenes would normally play and none load.

I'm sure they used to work under DosBox 0.65.
The version of Blood I'm playing is the Plasma Pak v1.21

Any help would be truly appreciated. 😀

ATARI - release the source code already will yer.
It's been 10 years.
Or create a Windows port for the anniversary. It's surely a win/win situation, as it would mean punters like me who already own the game would spend money again. And it will introduce to those, who missed out on a truly "special" game the first time around.
😉

You can install 0.65 in parallel with 0.70. Then you can test if they work with 0.65.

Have just tested against DosBox 0.65 and they still don't work.

I must have been running the game a different way to get them to work. Also forgot how horrid the game ran under 0.65. (Has been a while since I have tried to play this game)

Still, at least with 0.70 it plays flawlessly on my XP Home Edition SP2 PC
It's just a shame about the cut scenes. I guess you have to have some compromise.

If anyone gets these working please let me know.

Thanks All

Um you said it worked for you with 0.65 but now doesn't, that's not
a shame but simply bad configuration somewhere. Reinstall the
game within dosbox 0.70 and don't touch the .ini files. If it still
doesn't work have a look again at the contents of that .ini file,
maybe posting the content here.

Here's the full content of the Blood.ini.
(Modied with the specified file paths)

I tried running the game without a modified version and the scenes still didn't play.

How do you mount the drives?

Through DosBox:

mount c c:\OldGames\Blood

The file paths in the .ini file are set automatically depending on where you install the game.

Initially, I let it install under the default C:\Blood.

I then copied the files into the “OldGames” folder from the default “Blood” folder and changed the .ini file paths. (As specified in the Games Readme)

Then I reinstalled the game changing the default path C:\Blood to C:\OldGames\Blood

The files are Smaker! Videos. Could this be the problem?

If you do a:

"mount c c:\oldgames\blood"

Then all of your blood files will be in the root of "C:\"

while your .ini is looking for the smk's in: \

"C:\OldGames\Blood\"

RogersST, you're mounting your C drive as C:\OldGame\Blood in DOSBox!. That means that to DOSBox, C:\OldGames\Blood IS your C: drive. As in, that directory is the root of C drive. Do you see the problem?

You did read the readme, right?. DOSBox acts completely independently of your OS and folder system. Here is the corrected INI file.

Make sure that you simply mount your C drive in DOSBox as C:\OldGames this time. Add the line to your conf file at the bottom so it mounts automatically.

Hello All...

I have this sorted now, thanks to DosFreak's response.

*********************
" If you do a:

while your .ini is looking for the smk's in: \

"C:\OldGames\Blood\" "

It was midnight when I was trying to sort this so I was a bit slow on the uptake. 😉

I must have done this before, as I knew I had them running under 0.65, but it was a while ago.

Sorry I haven't updated this thread but I'm at work. 😢 (Currently on lunch - Time check 13:22pm)

Any how... Thanks for everyone’s help
😁

I sometime wonder, if the people that uses DOSBox, never go to the theather or never watches a movie. Many don't seem to understand that acting/emulating a thing means that what you see is faked.

When you see in the news how many times people confuse the actor with the person in the movie it is sometimes frightening. In summaries of movies you read very often the actor's names instead of the names of the person, like "Brad Pitt rescues Julie Roberts" or something similar. This is only amusing but it gets to another level when actors are adored or threatened because of things they "did" in a movie.
I remember that Malcom McDowell received murder threats because his fictional character killed "James T. Kirk", another fictional character in a Star Trek movie.

So now you don't wonder that the same happens here. 😉

Edit: Wow, this is my 100th post. Hooray! 😁
