Is there a patch to add 3dfx support for the Windows version of this game? I've read that the "Titanium" release had 3dfx support built in, but I only have the original DOS/Windows 95 CD

You can patch it up to version 1.08b and you will get Direct3D acceleration support while keeping the original scripted salvage.
Or, patch it all the way to version 1.1 and you will get Direct3D acceleration support AND dynamic salvage.
Check out http://www.mech2.org/

No native 3Dfx Glide API. That's only available for Titanium series.

He was asking for Mercenaries. Those links do not apply for Mercenaries.

Oh well, fair enough on Mercs. Is the Titanium release worth getting, then; some of the stuff I read about it said it wasn't so good?

Some people seem to like Titanium.. others do not.

That being said, one of, if not my very favorite game back in the day was the original Mechwarrior. I just purchased a copy of these from the same seller:
Battletech Trilogy CD (Mechwarrior, Cresent Hawk's Inception, and Crescent Hawk's Revenge)
Mechwarrior 2 Titanium Trilogy (Mechwarrior 2 Titanium, Ghost Bears Legacy Titanium - only available in Titanium from this set, and Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries Titanium.

The original Mechwarrior is easy enough to get through other channels.... but I have been wanting an original copy but the floppy versions are sort of hard to come by and floppies are getting somewhat unreliable.

Even betaarchive didn't have any of the Titanium versions of the Mechwarrior 2 games. I would really like to have tried them beforehand, but for the price I got the boxed set for, I should be able to resell and make my money back and then some if I decide to considering how uncommon it is and how much it has been going for.

I already had the original Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries and I also have regular Mechwarrior 2 and the expansions on the way which I picked up for cheap.
