I’d like to call this a new build but as we all know parts swap between builds all the time and at some point you have a old build with new parts that you may as well call a new build. The conundrum of ulysses ship if you will, if you leave port and over the course of your journey replace every part did you return with the same ship?

Anyway.

Here are some links that I have referenced heavily during this build.

The 1.04 board has been pretty straightforward no issues pretty stable with correct settings, even managed to get 120x5 working pretty good but the 1.06 board has been a total nightmare. Also had some issues with my radeon 9800 pro causing random freezes and restarts on all boards. Which took me a while to figure out because it would seem to work fine till the crash and it was my only agp card for a while.

Voltage blaster seems to work pretty good.

Even if I’m pretty sure nothing on my system is using -5v 🤣 except the light on the test card and the monitor in the bios

I played around with the 1.06 board this evening but eventually gave up, there is something seriously wrong with it. It keeps rebooting like someone is bumping the power plug 🤣. I’ve reinstalled the 1.04 board and will probably just continue to use it from now on.

Any more recent ATI card would cause issues.
Same with Geforce starting from Geforce 4.

I read that as meaning the 8500 is too power hungry to use, therefore stick with the 7000s... BUT, I think the later shrinks of the 8500 like 9200, 9250 on universal AGP slot cards might be in with a chance of working okay, due to being a little less thirsty, but probably nothing further.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

My 5500 9250 and 9000 seem to be working fine on this board 1.04

Hidden jumper settings btw for p5a

Good to know the undoc settings thanks.

Now what motherboard was it that has 95Mhz bus, no PCI divider.. i.e FSB/2 divider... might be useful for pre-qualifying PCI cards that work at unsane PCI speeds... though I think you can find the odd NIC around that can do PCI-66.
