I have restored an old Victor 386MX/25 and put a ESS 1688 sound card in it.
Wav works, and games play sound.
But I cannot play midi-files.

It was a long time since I worked on DOS/Windows 3.X.
It says "Current settings for the MIDI-mapper refers to an MIDI-device that is not installed"
I can choose several MIDI-mappers in the settings, but none work.
What to do?

What options are available in the MIDI mapper?

There should be one named something like "FM Synthesis".

If not, you may need to install the Adlib or an OPL3 driver and may also need to edit the System.ini file to get it working.

i found this site it has a driver package that appears to have fm support http://www.win3x.org/win3board/viewtopic.php? … 482&language=en
perhaps there might be an ess audio rack to use it or even with wins32 installed if only 32bit available.
