Mine is formatted as vfat.
With filenames, just make sure everything is in the 8.3 format. EtherDFS simply can't read beyond 8 characters, and if you're copying folders with such files in them, the process will error out when it gets to them.
I'm gonna (tomorrow, it's late) try to make a 32GB vfat filesystem to use with EtherDFS.
I must say, it's working perfectly... I'm using it for a webserver, my http server reads all it's website files from my mounted drive and writes it's access log file to it, all works perfectly, and very fast too! 😀
One thing though, I have about 3MB of RAM drive available on the client, and I was wondering if you guys know of a good software I can install to create a cache on the mounted EtherDFS drive that uses
a swapfile on the RAM drive. That way, files that are read a lot can just be read from the RAM drive swapfile and don't need to be fetched entirely over the network, which is quite slow as my client is an XT class machine with a PCMCIA ethernet card...
So does anyone know of a good DOS swapfile based filesystem cache that works on network mapped drive letters ?
Preferably a cache that can use a swapfile directly, as a cache that uses expanded memory could also work (but i'd have to setup an EMS emulator with a swapfile) but it will be much more of a hassle and won't be as fast as a cache that directly can create and use a swapfile on my ramdrive. (also, my EMS emulator is'nt %100 compatible and does'nt work with many EMS using applications, they sometimes freeze when trying to use the EMS memory)
