I went to http://dosbox.sourceforge.net and it was said there that "FIFA International Soccer" is 'runnable' on DosBox version 0.63 I searched all over the Internet, but was only able to find and download DosBox version 0.70

I have Windows XP home edition and I tried to run this game using DosBox 0.70 but couldn't get it to run for some reason.

Could someone tell me how to run "FIFA International Soccer" on Windows XP? Does anyone have any experience with this particular game?
Do I need DosBox version 0.63 or is version 0.70 OK?

I am not technical at all, so please guide me step by step, click by click.
Thank you so much in advance! This is my favorite soccer game and I can't wait to play it on my PC (if it is possible at all).

Fifa 94? Doesn't work, won't work (maybe you can grab a prefetchqueue-enabled
build from the forum here, should work).

What is it? And where can I download it? Could you provide a link to it?

See the thread at
Jetfighter
But no idea if fifa works with this build (it should, at least it
did for me some time ago).

Ok, I looked at that thread and downloaded that rar file, but it doesn't do anything for me. I don't even know what program I should use to open it with.

Can someone guide me to making FIFA International Soccer (94) run on my Windows XP?

I can't believe there is no way to run/play this game on my PC 🙁

Please respond,

Thanks

It doesn't do what?? Did you unpack the rar archive? If so,
was there a dosbox.exe? This one should be configurable
with core=prefetch to run the game (type "core prefetch"
before starting fifa).

OK, I've done what you said and I do see DosBox.exe in that rar file, but when I click on DosBox.exe little window, it gives me this message:
"This application has failed to start because SDL_net.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I re-installed it but it gives the same message again 🙁

Any suggestions?

Please reply,

thanks.

Did you read the thread there?

zelenog - you need to install a fully working DOSBox (with SDL and stuff) first. Then you replace the dosbox.exe with the one in the RAR-file.

1. Yes, I did read the thread. It didn't say anything about proble with running that rar file or hoe to fix it.
2. I DID download DoSBox version 0.70 first! But how do I replace DOSbox.exe in the rar file with the one in fully working dosbox 0.70 if there is no dosbox.exe in version 0.70? I mean when I click on dosbox version 0.70 dosbox.exe never shows up!

Anyone?

OK, I figured it out- I added the missing DLL file to DosBox.exe in the rar file and it is working great!

Now, the problem is running the actual game using DosBox. Here is what I do to run it and maybe you could tell me what steps I am missing and why it isn't working:

"1. Run the DOSBox utility. Black window with "Z:\>" should appear. 2. Then type "MOUNT C: <game directory>" (substitute <game directory> with full pathname to where you unpacked game files, eg. if the game directory is "C:\Games\mygame", you'll need to type "MOUNT C: C:\Games\mygame") and hit enter( I entered Mount C: C:\FIFA) 3. Type "C:" and hit enter. 3. Type "dir *.exe" or "dir *.com" or "dir *.bat" and hit enter to list all game's executable files (.exe, .com & .bat respectively), or better use Windows Explorer to list these files and to read manual/info/readme files as described in the above section. 7. Finally, type the executable file's name and hit enter. I typed FIFA.EXE that was among the list of files and what it did was- the dosbox window just dissapears and the game never runs!

Did I miss smth? Any suggestions?

Yeah, about that... when do I have to type that? before step 1 that is described above or before I type FIFA.EXE?

Sorry for asking so many questions, but I am not technical and need you guys tell me exactly what to type when I run dosbox. So, where and when do I type "core prefetch"?

Yes, before starting fifa.exe type "core prefetch".

OK, I typed prefetch before step 1 and it is working but at the very end: when I complete all steps, new windos shows up and I get this message:
"Sound hardware not responding
C:\>_"

This "_" sign is blinking like they want me to type there smth.

What do I do?

I am very close, I can almost feel playing this game, but it's not my fault that smth else comes up that needs to be solved 🙁

Is there an install.exe or setup.exe or similar? Don't have the game here,
but you got to configure the sound correctly i guess.

Yeah, there is a "CONFIG.EXE" file and that's where you set the sound correctly. I am not new to this, but this game does smth weird.

Here's what happens:

I go to C:\FIFA\CONFIG.EXE on my computer and window shows up where I should set the sound up.

1. "Sample Card in Use" says "no card" next to it. The same with "FM card in use." Then I go to "Auto Set cards" and it selects Sound Blaster 2.0 for both of those cards. Then I go to test them, and when I click on "Test sample effects" I hear a sound. So far so good 😀 But when I click on "test
FM effects" I hear nothing 🙁 I tried to set up other sound cards but it didn't work. So, I thought OK, let's save these sound settings in my config.exe file and see if it works when running DOSBox, but THERE IS NO SAVE SOUND SETTINGS OPTION in config.exe file It just says "QUIT" (when you are done) And when I come back to config.exe, naturally those two sound cards are set back to "no cards" ( because I could save them, I suppose). What do I do?

Gosh, so much effort for a DOS game. I would give up a long time ago, if it wasn't my favorite game 😀

Please help 😀 And thank you for your time folks. I really appreciate it!

Are you running config.exe within dosbox? (You should do that, only).
dosbox defaults are sb16, address=220, irq=7, dma=1 (see dosbox.conf),
maybe you can manually configure those with config.exe
