Already have a Voodoo2 SLI on my P3 Retro Beast but I couldn't resist to get another one... 160$ for a 12MB one. Carefully inspected it before testing it, I found 2 bent legs on one of the 2 mains 3dfx chips ( common when not treated as they deserve 😭). Easily fixed and tested on my P233mmx Rig under Quake2. Working like a charm 😍

Now back in safety in my geek cupboard for the next years 😇

I agree , I felt stupid for buying a voodoo 2 for 120 aud then another for 140 aud to get a sli setup going back in 2020 but looking at the prices now it doesn't seem so bad. I mean people pay stupid amounts for knowingly broken ones now , it's mental.

I paid €70 for a broken Voodoo3 3000 - I fixed it with a firmware flash so perhaps many believe a card isn't truely dead and they can resurrect it?

That's what I'm talking about. They have such a distinct sound. Imagine a rebuild of a RAID5 on 12 Bigfoots. 😄

hehe I like the way you think !

Imagine a full defrag of all drives at once.

Am I wrong to also be imagining the sound of 12 52x speed CD drives spinning up? Or I see that Kenwood had a 72x speed drive. There's got to be reasonable odds with that many discs that one will let go. Could spin them up one at a time, each time getting a bit more wooshier. Then just when you think it can't get any more wooshier, it does. It goes up to 12.

I already have 2 😁

So 10 more to go 😉

And a case with 12 5.25" bays...

And a call to a local seismographic station so they won't mistake this rig being turned on for a natural seismic event.

If I remember correctly 72x Kenwood drive actually spun slower than 52x drives and higher speed was achieved otherwise (I vaguely remember LGR explained it in one of his videos).

I mean its your money and you can do with it as you please , if you feel like buying a voodoo to repair there's nothing wrong with that.

But it just shows the state of the market at the moment ,where in order to get a good deal you have to gamble by repairing a card that may or may not be fixable.

And how far will it go , will you eventually have to pay 200 to fix a voodoo? The alternative being paying 400 for a confirmed working one , where does it end?

Imagine the PSU require to power the rig up .. might need two or a backplane that can provide enough Molex connectors 😁

My 129 MB HDD for my IBM PS/1 Imagination System computer came in last night. Hyped to get it installed and install windows and dos. Though I watched a video of someone else with this computer and apparently this system had a custome windows just for this sytem. So im now going to hunt that down instead of installing the windows 3.1 i have.

ALso, I was going to put in a 5.25 inch drive , but this also came with a cd rom. so i might keep the cd rom...

The other thing is that apparently this computer can be upgraded to 32 megs of ram and to a DX 66 .

Anyway here is the drive

Wild things to do with 12 drive array...

Pull your RAM down to minimum to boot because swap is faster.

Use in 486 PCI board with 486 SX clocked to 50mhz and an FPU emulator implemented in lookup tables.... get 30 FPS in Quake.

Have redundantly redundant redundancy that matches your level of data paranoia

Use LS120 drives and play quake off floppy.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

"Hope no one gets offended by "Soviet Bloc" not sure where to place all the countries from that area of the world since some of them are not EU members." - no, that's ok. Post-Soviet countries, that's what we are.

Comparing prices I see we still have lot of stuff that is cheaper. Or better to say WAS 😀 Seems like this source has dried up.
