The config file is provided in that thread if you want to run it and screenshot your results at 800x600.
I strongly disagree with what that guy is doing with that thread, so that’s a hard pass from me. 😀

Also a screenshot of your 3Dmark 2000 at 1024x768 is gonna be needed if we're going to address that at all.
Will do tomorrow, once I find the time.

The problem with 640x480 is that barely anyone benchmarks at such a low res
This is normal when testing CPU performance: you want to eliminate any possibility of hitting a GPU bottleneck, so benchmarking at the lowest resolutions is the way to go. Anyway, a Geforce 2 Ultra can handle higher resolutions very well. So there would be no meaningful difference at 800 x 600.

here's an old Anandtech article that shows what Ultras can get at 640x480 though https://www.anandtech.com/show/601/10
Those scores on Anandtech are not comparable.Anand did not test with a sound card during that period:
https://www.anandtech.com/show/601/8
Back in the day, there were games where performance would drop by almost 50% when using a sound card (Quake 3 is one of those games). This is why I specifically mentioned that I was using a sound card for my benchmark (and that it’s on Best sample conversion quality, which puts even more stress on the CPU).
Also, Anand was testing demo01, I tested demo04, which I believe is more CPU intensive.
Tomorrow I’ll do another test without a sound card in Quake 3.
