what about cinebench? but the older ones:
2003 supports windows 2000 and up
and I know of the existence of cinebench 2000 but can't find a copy, that one should support 98se and maybe 95

anyone remember a benchmarking program in windows 3.1 where it was a fake word processor, spreadsheet, and graphics programs and it ran them on the screen and spit out results?

I remember this program as a kid but cant remember what it was called

To whomever has access to https://www.vogonsdrivers.com/: please consider uploading this file to the Benchmarks section. Indy3D frequently gets mentioned on ancient hardware review sites such as Anandtech, and I believe it still has some practical (not to mention historical) value.

It's more functional on older Win9x operating systems and includes a CPU test. It's nice to see developers giving such long running application some TLC towards the older OS'es, which is very rare!

While searching around, I saw a couple posts about a freeware windows 3.x benchmarking program called Winspeed. Ah, now I did find a direct download link, before I had found it on a shareware CD, and "Windows Speed" is the correct name.

It is in the archive WNSPD.ZIP. It appears to be the predecessor to Windsock, a later Win3.x benchmark program. It's probably only useful for historical reasons but I thought I'd post it here. (I found it difficult to search for since "WINSPEED" didn't turn up that link)

I also wanted to mention the Sysmark benchmarks. While looking into these, I found mention of a Sysmark 92 (for MS-DOS), and a Sysmark 93 (for Windows and DOS), ctrl+f for sysmark:

I have been searching for Sysmark98 for some time. Would love to get a hold of it as it was the primary benchmark tool for the Maximum PC reviews in the late 90's.

@fsmith2003 Getting BapCo's Sysmark 1998 may be a bit hard, as this software was pretty expensive back in the day. There may not be many that pirated it, and as such - you are out of luck.
I wouldn't be surprised if that magazine got a "free" copy of Sysmark as "promotional" activities of BapCo though.

Personally, I think there is no point in testing stuff with hard to obtain benchmark programs.
We have more than enough (and easy to obtain) software [PCMark/SiSoft Sandra], to create our own and still usefull result tables (as hardware used back then is still around), and in my view -
validating those against old and hard to get bench programs is plainly not needed.

I don't want it for testing, but only for checking, how it looks. I didn't find any videos on internet/youtube. So just from curiousity. I agree, there are much better benchmarking programs.

I've found some mentions about it in various articles, and reviews from 1997 and 1998,

and of course, it was target of "tweaking drivers so card manufacturer get boost" . I just wanted to exlore that benchmark, from pure curiousity. Also for historical correct projects (when you are limited up to december 1997, or summer 1998)
