I couldn't pass it up; $35.00 for this Lian-Li case with an Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4 gigs DDR2, 650 watt Seasonic power supply, and a very basic video card (no hard drive of course). Sadly, it only has the minimum needed cables for the modular power supply which is bad because those things are proprietary. It posted with no issue when I got it home. I think this case may end up with my Socket A build in it.

You can get custom cables made for your Seasonic power supply from any good vendors including on ebay.

Yes, and the prices aren't too bad, but it makes me sad that the originals were likely left in the box which was later thrown out because "What would I need these for?" I've two other modular power supplies that I've ended up with either for free or for cheap that have this issue - it's an unforeseen downside to modular power supplies.

Have a couple things on the way that I have been trying to track down for years for a not absurd price.

Hope to recoup the cost by selling off some stuff that is in the lot that the AWE64D was in.

I really want to upgrade the Mach64 to 4MB but need to look into what specific upgrade boards are compatible.

You can probably even contact Seasonic directly and order cables from them. They have super excellent customer service last time I had to contact them.

Nice find. If you sell the other parts, you basically got the case for free.
If I see deals like these, I also don't hesitate.

I don't know if this qualifies for this thread, but I'll post anyways 😀 I guess this currently falls more into "junk" category than "retro". Future retro collectible maybe 😀

I got this Asus DirectCu II Radeon HD 7970 as a thanks for giving a ride. We talked on the way, that I collect all kinds of computer related retro crap, and he said I got something for you. Very chunky card, weighs about 1,3kg. Three slots high cooler. What a brick.

Prices are sliding now, could maybe find one in low hundreds but a couple of months ago it was worth $150 and maybe a few months before at peak GPU drought $200, that's because it will still perform on the same level as R9 380s, GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1650 etc

edit: btw, other threads we've got going... this is the paid money for hardware you could still regard as "modern" thread Bought this (Modern) hardware today and this one is the "I got it for free!" thread... I recently found this hardware, AKA the Dumpster find thread. though yeah it's a roll of a dice to decide where it goes since it's not all that modern, and you "paid" for it with a ride etc.

Another graphics card. This one I bought for 10€. Quadro FX 4600 768MB. It is going into my overkill Windows 2000 build.

Yeah good plan, try to snag an E3 Xeon, or i5-2500, or FX4xxx system or better for under ~$100 ish and it will run quite a lot 720p -900p and maybe older/less demanding at 1080p.

Pretty much anything HD78xx and HD79xx is worth a second look still but further down the 7000s they're mainly just desktop or 10 year old stuff cards now.

Got this nice little Compaq Evo N620c laptop. Bought it because once I had an N600c and I lived it! This one is a little bit newer, it has a mobile Pentium M @ 1.4 GHz, 256 MB RAM, mobile Radeon 7500 with 32 MB RAM, 160 GB HDD, DVD drive. Also came with a ball mouse and some 12V Philips power supply. It's working with this power supply but the battery is not charging. The original power brick has 18.5 V output, so I need to find one.
Allready upgraded tha RAM to 512 MB, WinXP runs great on it.
Also tested a few games, NFS Porsche runs great, around 55 FPS @ 1024x768.

This weekend, I was about to purchase a CBM 1541 disk drive for my Commodore 128 I acquired last week, but having seen the news about "peacemaking" operation in Ukraine, I am re-routing my retro purchase budget to war refugee charities. Could't be happier about my choice.

I'm not sure that it qualifies as retro in and of itself, but I just purchased a GTX 980 Ti (seller's photo) for a retro project. I'm hoping to pair this GPU with an Intel Broadwell CPU for my Ultimate Windows XP build sometime this fall.

I'll let my son use it in his PC (replacing a GTX 960) for the time being.

I think you're gonna want the 960 anyway... unless you're running x64 XP... can't see how 32bit copes with a 6GB card, and thought it only coped with 2GB if you kept total system+graphics under 4GB.... though this might depend on chipset of motherboard and implementation, neither of which Dell seemed to be good at (Scowls at Dementia 5150)

GTX 980Ti is unsupported on XP OS but GTX 960 is and fast enough.

Put that 980 Ti in high end Windows 10 gaming box.
