just convert your GF3 Ti-200 into a GF3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvjWv_NpswY 😁

I have very fond memories of my P3 system, especially the mainboard (P3B-F) was one of the best boards I ever had.

The board in this system is one of the Slot 1 / 370 boards a Jetway 9BXAN-A, mines the no sound version but there is a sound version on eBay for a very reasonable price so I might upgrade it. (Only seems to support 370 Celerons so not that useful)

Ah Phil to the rescue again, such a great channel and a really cool guy, will have a look into this too since its an ASUS card it might just be ok with such a mod.

Onboard Sound of the 90's is really terrible, I wouldn't even bother with it.

Unrelated, how can I find out REASONABLE selling prices for hardware in my stock I might be willing to sell? I remember we should not post our own stuff on Vogons

PC#1: K6-III+ 400 | 512MB | Geforce4 | Voodoo1 | SB Live | AWE64 | GUS PNP Pro
PC#2: 486DX2-66 | 64MB | Riva128 | AWE64 | GUS PNP | PAS16
PC#3: 386DX-40 | 32MB | CL-GD5434 | SB Pro | GUS MAX | PAS16

I used to buy Abit motherboards because they were some of the last to offer boards without.

There's at least one thread about that question:
Market value for popular or rare classic computer hardware

Also, simply search for sold items on the bay, there you go, if some were sold in the last 90 days.
Beyond that, there are meta portals like https://picclick.com - those are unavoidable if google for certain items.

Bought a bunch of second hand GPU's for 40 euros:

NVIDIA GeForce 6800GS 256MB
ATI Radeon 9600 256MB (R96A)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300GS 256MB
FX5200 128MB
2x Radeon 3450 256MB

Quite happy with the haul!

can't find a lot of information about it except that originally it came with a break-out-box and a special cable.

not a lot? Have you tried Google?

No, in fact I avoid google as much as I can. But that's probably not what you meant 😀
Of course it's easy to find the technical specifcations and also some old reviews. I'm more interested in what the retro-community thinks about this card but there it doesn't show up very often.

Cuttoon wrote on 2022-03-01, 14:31:

I'd assume the one 3.5 mm connector on the backplate is the basic line out, so that should go a long way?

Strangely it's an Aux In. The card was supposed to be not 'only a soundcard' but a media center, so the card it really useless without the box.

It's worth keeping and finding the breakout, shouldn't be too hard as these are often parted from the internal card. Sellers sometimes seem to think that the breakout is self-contained. The Hercules box itself is nice and solid, styled front plate with gold connectors and knobs over blue; Hercules also came out with a gaming LCD around the same time IIRC, with a similar blue. Chunky a$$ cable to boot, that could be harder to find though. It was a pretty decent card at its release, though whether you want to keep it depends on your use case.

Nice deal on those GPUs bassix, those 7300GT kinda surprised me back in the day, but I was still in budget gamer mode and coming off a GF4 4x00ti

Edit: derp it's a GS yours, not quite so hot, but still kinda middle of previous gen performance.

But if you ever figure out a good use for those things, let me know, I've also got two, they just sit around waiting for their special use. 🤣

Why not just get the ti4200-8X which comes with 128MB at the same speed as the 64MB version?

The 8x versions typically will only work with later drivers. So if there is a bug or incompatibility that has been introduced in a later then you're out of luck.

This is why the GeForce 5900 would be more desirable than the 5900XT if you wanted to run the 45.23 drivers, for example.

It's like ATA133* to me, only after it was replaced were there devices capable of saturating it. Meaning PCIe GPUs were coming out before AGP 8x was necessary, so you didn't really get much in performance boost or futureproofing.

(* and there was only barely a point to ATA100 with many of the late PATA drives only managing 70Mbyte/sec sustained. RAID 0 could soak it though. Of course if you're looking at PATA to SATA convertors that can keep up, ATA133 would be preferable to use SSD with. )

Todays pickings. Roland is unfortunately without the power supply. How many amps does it need?

If it's anything like other Roland devices like the MT-32 and Sound Canvas, the import part is make sure that the tip is center negative.

I don't know if using a switching power supply over a linear one makes any difference to these devices either.

Here is a photo of the adapter I use with my MT-32.

It usually should state that on the device.
Even if you had the original, you could probably get a modern one and save the extra cost in the power bill.

Another approach can be, get a broken DSL modem and through away the modem.

Just FYI, since in another thread someone was doubtful on this point recently, but I might be preaching to the choir, you should match voltage closely, but amps can be anything from 1 to 10 times that number, and the only reason really to limit it to 10 times, is to make sure you're pulling enough current to stabilize the PSU. It just sucks what it needs on the current front.

Roland MT-100

I have 9v but only 0.6a, so i think it collapses on power on. Will try tomorrow with a 1A and hopefully that’ll do

From the manual: "950mA/9V"
http://cdn.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/MT-100_OM.pdf

Roland US AC Adapter Guide, recommending specific models :
"Original MT-100/120 adapter = ACB-120, which was unregulated 9V 1200mA
New adapter/substitute = PSB-1U, which is regulated 9V 2000mA"
https://www.rolandus.com/assets/press_media_r … dapterGuide.pdf

Any regulated 9V center-negative pack of 950mA or greater (I recommend allowing headroom, for longevity - e.g. a 1500 or 2000mA regulated pack) will run the device.

Opting for a good quality or known reliable brand is preferred (for example, your country's versions of the models recommended by Roland), with respect to longterm durability, stress upon the module's electronics, potential introduction of erratic noise, etc; but that's somewhat down to personal preference.

Me too! It came with my module, from Japan seller. Which likewise came with the original manual, unused - in Japanese naturally. It has been nice to have the remote control, shining in it's original wrapper, sitting in my drawer for X months/years since I got it. But beyond that, the question is: what to do with it. I've no need to remotely control my SC-55, as it is already within arm's length when I am using it.

Why not just get the ti4200-8X which comes with 128MB at the same speed as the 64MB version?

4200 and 4200-8X both come in 64MB and 128MB versions. Only difference is that the 8X can transfer data at AGP-8X speeds (although more 8X have memory clocked at 250+MHz than on the 4200)
