Found myself a load of these beauties.
That's two Global WIN CAK38, and six (!) CAK-II 38.
Brand new in boxes no less.

Different generations and very different manufacturing processes.
The CAK38's look's like a solid block of copper was machined to get fins, fairly crudely sawed fins too.
The CAK-II 38's on the other hand are skived and much better looking.
They all come with screaming 7k RPM fans tho, fortunately with fan-guards.

Been on the lookout for some good S370/Socket A coolers for a long time now, guess I'm sorted for a while =)
Ended up paying about 3€ each for them, not to bad!

Some of the screamy gets mitigated if you space the fan away from top of the fins and the fan guard away from the top of the fan a bit.

Yea I have no intention of using 7k fans ever again...
Thankfully Fractal Design still sells decent 60mm 3k RPM'ish fans.
They cost more then the coolers o.f.c, but then again can you put a price on sanity? =)

Socket 5 - TIM-PENTIUM-AVIO - Has an 80Mhz fsb setting, onboard CL 5434 and can take up to 1MB L2 cache. Have not been able to find much about this board at all. Anybody have any real info? What about a manual? Wim's scammy BIOS page says it was made by Tae il (Newmax).
After looking a bit, it looks like this was a Korean company that went bankrupt in 1998.

That was a nice variety pack, intrigued by the UMC pentium board, never ran one.

Today's update is a Matrox G400 MAX... actually, the Windows 98 driver identifies the card as a G400 Dual Head. The model number is G4+MMDHA32G. The performance capabilities come up the same as the G400 MAX with Power strip; 151MHz clock and 201MHz SGRAM. I reviewed the .inf file, and there is a separate section and description for the G400 MAX. I don't see any marking to indicate this one is a Dell version. It's probably some other OEM release? Are there any differences besides the name and model number? Or are those just cosmetic? The G400 MAX and G400 Dual Head are basically the same card?

I found it on eBay because of them recommending it as something I might "like." It is unlikely I would have found the card otherwise; the listing did not have "G400" or "MAX" or "Millennium" in the title or description. Seeing the fan made me snap it up (after the seller accepted my offer).

Won an ebay auction for this beauty, a Gateway VX900T 19" CRT (Sony Trinitron tube) in what looks to be beautiful condition. It wasn't cheap, but man they're rare and it looks clean, and the image looks straight as can be. It'll likely end up being the primary monitor for my P3/Voodoo 5500 Win98 system to rock those 3dfx titles at 1600x1200, maybe dual purpose for one of my 2000 or early XP systems. Unfortunately I won't be able to play with it for a few months as it's back east and I had a family member pick it up and hold it for me, so have to wait until summer. 🙁

Grabbed a Samtack ComStar external USB/network drive aka a XiMeta Netdisk... 320GB version maybe... IDK I'm still tryna open it, power connector is weird PSU was AWOL. I thouuuuuught it would have some dirt simple SMB server on there, but nope it uses some proprietary driver that mounts it as external SCSI on XP, 98 drivers promised but not sure if they showed up. So don't know if it would be worth using for what I thought, dumb NAS just plug it in to a cluster of retro boxes on their own hub and you've got shared storage.... which would sorta work if all your retro machines are XP, so it's just really an extra clunky USB external now, if I can get it working. However, alt plan is to dig the PATA drive out of it, which is fairly decent size for PATA. Seems to need 3 or 4 hands to spring open though, push tabs in holes either side at the same time while pushing and sliding on top transitioning to a lifting action... hooooooooooookay.

Got this, payed too much for a whole PC a pentium 90 that was a socket 7. If it were a socket 5 though but in the pics were this sound blaster. Nothing to it but the chip it had. Mostly i find the slot empty or no socket at all and they are not sold in any stores i can find. Good find or what?

That’s not a bad find, as it’s not too common to find the DSP chip. They weren’t used all too often.

Good find. Now that you mention it, they apparently shipped quite a lot of these with that vacant socket and very few people bothered to pay a king's ransom for that powerful, versatile if not essential piece of circuity.

The 2230 multi CD appears to be one of the more numerous specimen. Always wondered how many of those proprietary drives are still out there, in working order. Impossible to find because no one recognizes them...

They started integrating IDE controllers pretty soon after, it seems.

And yes, that ASP chip reads "MALTA BABE", indeed.

Cool, I just picked up a Riva TNT2 card the other day.
From what I remember back in 1990’s these had Better Graphics resolution and colors than most of the other video cards.

Think it was a close race with the Voodoo3 but the Voodoo won't do 32 bit colors.
If one were to mess around with such things, that conexant video out chip there is one of the better ones and not that common on a riva.

Been looking for an AWE64 D or PCI for a few years. Last person I found that had them for sale wanted me to make an offer so I offered $50 a piece. Then they said they were worth a lot more and when I asked how much they wanted they never gave me an answer.

I kinda spent way too much on that lot (around $200) to just give any parts away. Figured I could try to make some of that money back by selling the parts I didn't want.

Back before parts were insanely priced, CT1350B cards were basically dropping into my lap as parts of scrap lots.

Pretty sure I also got at least 2 of them when I found somebody that had a small online shop and was selling
grab bags of ISA sound cards.

Today's update is the last Pre-DirectX 12 GeForce card I will pick-up. I wasn't previously interested in the Geforce3, but after reading a few posts from TrashPanda commenting on its Xbox roots which I had only the mildest of awareness (if even that much - I probably read some blurb or review a long time ago, but I have long since forgotten), I decided the GeForce 3 was also an interesting card to have on hand.

I was wondering the same. The only thing the AWE64 has going for it, is the SB-Link.
