Would appreciate any recommendations for a decent cooler (that can be found) as the options on ebay seem pretty slim. I have an XP 3200+ and A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 motherboard; the only cooler I could find in my laying around was a Slim Volcano 8 P/N : A1492; problem is when I took a good look at the box it says "for AMD Athlon XP UP TO 2800+. So obviously that's not gonna work; appreciate any help.

It's possible that at the time they made that cooler, the 2800+ was the fastest model available. If the TDP is about the same then it will be fine.
If you're handy with a Dremel you may be able to make an adaptor for a current gen heatsink to the mounting holes next to the socket.

I've used an Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 3 for my Barton 3200+ and it worked really well. Better cooling compared to the stock copper-based HSF the 3200+ came with and it required much fewer de-dustings. It's not THE best sA HSF out there, but it does the job and I didn't overclock and it kept cool and quiet which is what I want from a HSF.
I liked it so much that I ended up purchasing more of them.
Only problem I could see is whether you're able to actually find them these days.

Personally I would not recommend a heatsink like this one. s370 has only half the cooling requirement compared to sA and the heatsink might not fit the sA CPUs correctly with the sA CPUs being much more fragile.
Another thing is that I'm also not a big fan of the HSFs that have only single clamp openings and prefer to use one with triple clamp openings as this is more secure and safer to use, especially with a Barton 3200+ which imo would be a shame to loose because of a HSF malfunction.

Well, quoting myself here now, on ebay there seem to be very few decent HSFs available for a Barton 3200+
I find it very hard to recommend any of the offerings I see on ebay tbh.

So after having concluded what I've written in my previous replies in this thread.
The Athlon XP 2800+ does run a little bit cooler than the Athlon XP 3200+, but if going along this page (do a CTRL+F for "Athlon XP 2800+") and the table will mention 68.3W TDP and slightly lower on this page is the 3200+ mentioned with a TDP of 76.8W.
Perhaps you could get by with replacing the existing fan with one which can move more air (be wary you would need to get a fan that can push harder, not a more specialized case fan that can push more air as these are not typically designed to push air through obstacles like the fins of a CPU HS).
Perhaps if you make sure the heatsink is cleaned whenever dust starts building up on top of the fins of the heatsink and have excellent case cooling (better than was typical for a case of the time), you might be able to get by using your existing heatsink.
But please do keep an eye on the temps until you know for sure it doesn't start locking up after prolonged gaming.
This is how I knew my 3200+ was getting too hot, it would reach more than 70 or 80 degrees and after an hour or 2 would lock up. This happened whenever the heatsink would start clogging up with dust and a dedust would make these lockups go away until new dust would build up again. This was doable, though highly annoying at times.
The AC Copper Silent 3 fixed this problem for me, so I'm positive it was an overheating problem.
I've looked on ebay and with what I see offered there, I can't really recommend any of them. None of them are like "Ahh yes, this one is nice! Take that one and you should be good to go!".
Some come close and would probably be able to cool something like a Thoroughbred 2400+ or so with relative ease, but the 3200+ gets really very hot!
Still, I reckon you should be (provided your HSF is properly installed) able to at least test your 3200+ PC using the HSF you already have, it usually takes a while before it will overheat.
Please be absolutely sure you install any HSF properly on a Socket A CPU. One mistake and it could go up in smoke (quite literally so). Don't bother testing without any cooling paste, it could fry in a second anyway. So don't work on it when you're tired or in dim lighting conditions etc etc.

For some reason this one wasn't showing up in the ebay search results for me (the older non-II CAK 38 did show up I think?), but this HSF actually seems decent enough 😀
Run Prime95. If the heatsink gets too hot to touch then it's not good enough.
Ice Hammer had a bunch of good "flower" type coolers for Socket 370/A. Also old revisions of Zalman 7k series, which Ice Hammer directly ripped off.

The clip can be changed on that cpu cooler I linked. And copper shim can be used.

I know the athalons get pretty warm. But this heatsink has never been anything but room temp on anything I’ve put it on. Though to be fair I think the most I’ve put through it is 40-50w
What were the athalons? 60-80w?
By extrapolation I’d say that it would be fine…
There is also those two thermaltake/thermalwright? Heatsinks that were shaped like big blocks that were wider on one axis at the top. I forget the name of them.

For Zalman he would want the 7000B or older (only older one I think is the 7000A) as those come with the alum bracket that screw into the motherboard if its NOS like the one I have. Most of the ones I have seen second hand that are not still in package are almost always missing those alum brackets. The other ones will work with those alum brackets I think but they just didnt come packaged with them.
I have a 2nd one I use on my Asus A7M266 with a Athlon 1200 and later Athlon XP 2000+
The brackets in the right side of the picture below are the ones I'm talking about.
I have seen 7000 (no letter) but only seen those with pentium 4 bracket.
I remember using a Swiftech mcx-462 with a vantech tornado fan. Sounded like a helicopter winding up.
