So I've moved myself out of New Mexico for work, and went around to a couple of shops today. Sure, I can't find some place that is known for retro computing, but a few places seem to have some nice random bit here and there. Like this $10 C64 game. Now I just need to find a way to redo the adhesive on the disk sticker, and find a damn C64 and floppy drive that aren't at speculation bubble prices.

Last week I came back from a thrift shop and went home with no less than 20 games. None of them are the big packages though, those seem to have finally run out.
I won't list all of them but they include several Myst games, several games that I never heard off (like a game called Cube), Crazy Frog Racer which I presume is gonna be terrible 🤣.
Also found another copy of Z. Didn't really need it but since this game was so much fun I couldn't leave it there anyway.
Also Close Combat a bridge too far, some racegame called Screamer and Knights and Merchants which tbh looked more like a shareware crdrom but it seems to be the complete game.

Today I got myself a bargin-bin version of Half-Life:
1195596003-00.jpg

Ugly cover, no booklet, but there is not a single scratch on the disk.

Really rare! There's only 2 1/2 million copies sold! 😮

😜

Seems to be a copy of tomb raider 1 unfinished business and tomb raider 2 golden mask which also seems to be an expansion of some kind. I have only played the regular versions before, and Tomb raider 1 quite recently. Tomb raider 2 was more action oriented than the first one from what I can remember from 20+ years ago.

River world, I have no idea. An early 3d RTS it seems. Box art is kind of cool I guess.

These just came in. Haven't played much of either, come to think of it as long as I've been on this forum never heard
much about them? Will install on my win98 system, maybe the xp too.

Rune is a cool game it seems, I don't think I played it back in the day other than maybe a demo. I think I'll pick up the demo and try it. Oh and it supposed to be one of the games that supports aureal vortex 2 if I remember correctly.

Slave Zero appears to be somewhat "sketchy" trying to get it to run. In win98 had to lower my desktop rez to 800x 600 otherwise it crashed.
In XP it crashes as well, still haven't solved that riddle yet.

For a moment there I was really confused, but then I remembered the whole jewish nazi and the dog merchant hassle.

I'm currently waiting for Unreal Tournament GOTY edition big box to arrive. I hoped to find it locally but apparently nobody wants to sell theirs around here, which is entirely understandable given it's a great game. Had to get it across the pond. Its been nearly three weeks now and it hasn't even left the country yet because it's apparenly in quarantine? Pretty extreme measures to try to control the plague these days.

Definitely! Especially when combined with Covert Operations 😀

And as far as I'm aware the DOS version doesn't have that interlacing effect on the cut-scenes.

I'm thinking about getting that for a while. I can't find a big-box edition locally, only some jewel cases. I mostly buy for playing rather than displaying so while I have a preference for pretty boxes and artwork, I rarely go out of my way to get them over the more available versions unless it's an all time favorite or very nostalgic.

A local vintage market which usually has a good amount of 'certain vintage stuff' for sale.

I was lazy to take photos, but today I got:

Aliens vs. Predator 2 - Medallion bargin bin, 2CDs, no booklet, only a sheet of paper with a product key which is not needed to install and play the game (maybe for multiplayer?)
Age of Mythology - seems to be an early version, but no booklet, the product key is on a sticker inside. I remember this was a hyped game back then, it was "Game of the Month" when it released, but I never got to play it.
Neverwinter Nights - Best of Atari bargin bin version 4CDs, 3 for the game, 1 for the manual. Now I have all the BioWare Forgotten Realms games.

Some nice picks here 🙂
I'm not sure if the key for AVP2 is only needed for multiplayer, I haven't installed it in a long while now. Multiplayer for AVP2 is dead now anyway except for a 3rd party effort to revive the master server which made (last time I checked) online multiplayer possible.
Or perhaps your version didn't need the key for singleplayer and my old version (large box) does??
Good memories from playing this game back in the day. I was a really good runner 😋
If you install it you should seek out that trick so you can view yourself from a 3rd person perspective. Especially good for those online multiplayer gamemodes where you'rte playing survival mode 😜

NVN is also a nice pick 😀

I don't know, the only copy (of AvP2) I ever head other than this now is the pirate copy I haven't installed in the past ~15 years and only played the multiplayer once on LAN.

UT99 GOTY was $29 which I'd consider a good price these days, the blue box original release sold for over double that just recently. This one had one of those annoying security stickers on the bottom but I managed to get it off without too much trouble. Arx Fatalis and The Witcher EE were both 3.50€, only seen Arx once before locally and the seller was asking a bit too much for my liking back then. People have also asked pretty ridiculous sums for The Witcher at times too.

Also bought a new sealed copy of Descent: FreeSpace big box but a week later the seller suddenly gave me a refund and said they had a flooding in their basement and the box took a dive, annoying but I imagine the seller was far more annoyed than me. Unless that was just a bs story and they found someone who offered more 😐

Very good condition. The disc is basically brand new.

Edit:
Interesting, the game crashes with a DirectX error whenever I try to change certain settings. Resolution, preferred renderer, positional audio and some other. It has no issues if I change them through the config file and otherwise runs fine.
