Oh how naive we were

https://www.anandtech.com/show/53

It is because of this that a Pentium MMX-166 can outperform its 200MHz Classic brother.

🤣 what bullshit, imagine thinking a MMX could compare to the God tier Pentium Pro

That quote is about the 166MHz Pentium MMX outperforming the 200MHz Pentium non-MMX though.

yes I'm aware, elsewhere in the article they were talking about how the MMX core was turbo advanced like the PPro

I had a chance btw to install two actual tillamooks (previous tests were one mmx, one tillamook) into a dual socket 7 tyan mobo.

The tillamook simply refuses to work in dual. You can post and detect/use one processor only with both installed. Which we already expected, but I thought I’d mention I tried again.

For the moment I will keep them in the hopes that some day someone may be able to figure out how to make them do dual.

I wonder if they actually fully removed the function from the core or just from the package? Like, maybe with some micro surgery one could be de lidded and the gold wires attached or something

A dual tillamook would be so awesome

If someone here has a messed up tillamook and could do some investigation on a de lidded unit that would be cool

Knowing Intel it is disabled in the same manner like locked multiplier (=impossible to undo).

There are machines out there for manual bonding. But I'm not sure whether you can delid the cpu. It seems that the die is soldered/glued to the silver plate and covered in epoxy from the other side

Edit: seems that deliding is indeed possible, but not sure if there is enough room to access the pads.

Video (trigger warning 😁 )

You got it to 533mhz?! Woah

How high would it go on air cooling?

What bus speed?

Were you limited by bus, memory, or core clock

Yes. And I'm sure is not limit. Next steps is 540mhz, 560mhz and 600mhz.
On air 400-420 MHz is limit for my 5pcs.
Bus 133mhz for 533Mhz of CPU speed.

Hey guys, can someone talk to me about the 4x mod. I did the little solder bridge in the picture guide. But on my tyan s1564 I can’t seem to get 4x using any of the ?two? Multiplier pins.

Can someone explain the pull up/pull down procedures, pins and configurations, etc. maybe suggest a way that a third jumper could be added to the cpu it’s self? (Maybe even a removable one)

how I understand:
"normal" BF2 mod is just routing BF2 to NC pin, as on Tillamook BF2 Pin is on a different position.

for some Boards (at least the P55T2P4's) "Forcing" BF2 is required as without only 3.5x multi boots (=will bot as 233mhz CPU). BF2 can be activated when it will be connected to ground (VSS) or voltage (VCC3) pin.

the P55T2P4's do not have a factory jumper for BF2 (multi >3,5) so e.g. for a AMD K6-300 (4,5) you also have to bridge/mod the socket ...... then I think the normal "BF2" mod (BF2-NC) is enough. But right now I don't wanna have a flying cable or hard modded Board...

Nemo1985 wrote on 2021-03-03, 15:22:

Sorry for the dumb question, so it does work without issues on the P/I-P55T2P4?

Thank you

no issues once you do the 3 bridges on the CPU.
but I only can talk about my version/rev. 3.10

the_patchelor wrote on 2021-03-08, 18:37:

it works if all three are connect and also if only outer two.
Multi jumpers on board are then ignored. you can leave them or set what ever

A few months ago I tried connecting all three, I don’t recall if I used the correct pins though, I may have assumed incorrectly, but whatever I did blew up a resistor on my motherboard which I was able to fix thankfully.

This is mainly why I want a deeper understanding of what is going on here.

I may just take that knowlege and use it for a bf2 socket mod.

And leave the cpu out of it. As I think the 4x works on ss7 boards?

Anyway, if I haven’t mentioned, I tried dual tillamooks finally. What I find interesting is not that they don’t work in dual, it’s that two will actually boot and show one. Which suggests that there is some kind of smp communication going on, because with any other non smp cpu it leads to no post.

Edit: Re: Tillamook SMP mod.

Edit:

Re: Tillamook 266MHz and working L2 cache?

the_patchelor wrote on 2020-09-17, 20:55:

got the Tillamook 266 MMX working at 4x66mhz on a ASUS P/I-XP55T2P4 (ATX Board). Just some headake last night and then I checked some intel documents...

To get multi 4x working, the BF2 has to be "enabled ", so I bridged NC-BF2-Vcc3 and I think this overwrites/enables the missing BF2 support on the Board (or?!)

So this post clearly shows the mod working. With three pins

Is it possible that a short could occur with a configuration like this if you set some of the motherboard jumpers in a specific way? I’m suspecting that instead of a wire we should use a 1k smd there or something?

edit: update on efforts to dual a tillamook have again hit a wall. possibly indefinitely. it seems to be 100% confirmed that several key pins needed for smp are indeed disconnected and basically useless exactly like the tech sheet says.

okay I got the 4x working using the extended mod but I jumped over the middle pin, I tried all jumpers on and no shorts, it's still at 4x unfortunately with all jumpers on or off that kinda means that it's stuck in 4x mode.... oh well, I suppose that is okay

any thoughts on how to activate 4.5x or 5x?

I think not connecting to/jumping/skipping over the center pin is safer, it keeps the bf2 pin from even interacting with the mobo it seems. I don't want to investigate further but something about all three pins fried a resistor last time and I don't want to repeat that.

Socket 5/7/SS7 (Motherboard) Tweaker (Released)

Some info about the 4x extended mod. It seems the mod should be done via 330 ohm resistor. Not a direct 0 ohm link. Possible magic smoke from that mod.

Confirmed working. 330 ohm resistor. 266 mhz on 2x setting on s7 mobo (non ss7)

We need to probably go back and make some edits warning against the previous extended mod.

Edit: I just realized, it may not matter. But only if you skip the center pin.

The center pin to the outer pin is where the danger can come from I believe.

The inner pin is the tillamook bf2 pin
The center pin is the mobo bf2 pin
The outer pin is 3.3v

To make 4x work the inner pin must find 3.3v preferably through a resistor, but it works either way.

If all three are connected, I believe when the center pin is pulled low to ground by mobo jumper setting that it will short to outer pin

Edit2:

I think I thought of a better version of this mod.

330 ohm between outer and middle, 0 ohm between inner and middle

This way the inner is pulled high, and can also be pulled low by mobo.

Today I re did the mods on my tillamooks using the new infos.

Two wires,
Two 0-ohm links,
One 330 ohm resistor BF2 to VCC3

I think it turned out good.

I hate how the labels keep coming off the resistors, ugh…

updated the picture guide (OP, feel free to fix my mspaint skills 🤣)

In other news I found a plastic 233 tillamook.

Also,

If a 4.5x multi exists…. What setting would that be? Bf2 pulled low?

Edit:
I’ve been working on a device to solder to the back of the motherboard that should allow all the known socket 5/7/ss7 mods shy of installing a powerleap. And also is designed so that all aspects of the mods can be switched off should you wish.

file.php?id=133207&mode=view

It includes mods for tillamooks.
