I spotted an AMD Athlon MP 2400+ SOCKET 462 CPU (AMSN2400DKT3C) for not much so I bought it with a view to looking for another one and then upgrading my TYAN S2466 (Tiger MPX) .

I then started wondering, Could I run a mixed CPU setup?

Looking at https://www.tyan.com/Motherboards_S2466_Tiger%20MPX then the board has Two onboard VRMs so I think the different core voltages should be OK, what do you guys think?

Checking https://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/338/A ... .65V).html the only other difference is the speed and I am pretty sure that is OK as I recall seeing a Gigabyte 7DPXDW-P with an AMD Athlon MP M8 (Thoroughbred) @ 2.00GHz + an AMD Duron MP M8 (Thoroughbred) @ 1.60GHz running Windows XP Professional V5.01 Build 2600 Service Pack 1 on 22-Feb-2006.

Seems maybe not?

Thank you for raising this, but I hope it will work even though it's not supported. Over the years I have come across several dual systems with setup's that are not supported.

My main concern is that the two CPUs will get different core voltages and things won't go up in smoke, that way if it works great and if not that I have not trashed any hardware.

I looked in https://download1.gigabyte.com/Files/Manual/n … 7dpxdw_1002.pdf and it does not seem to have a similar statement

So far so good, I have installed the AMD Athlon MP M8 (Thoroughbred) in my TYAN S2466 (Tiger MPX) motherboard and the system booted OK. As it should the CPU core voltage dropped from around 1.73 to 1.62 volts and the only minor issue is that the BIOS sets up AMD Athlon(tm) Processor rather than AMD Athlon(tm) MP 2400+.

I have BIOS 08/16/2002 which is the latest I could find, does anyone know of a later BIOS please?

Assuming your board is S2466/S2466N rather than S2466N-4M, this is the complete BIOS list - https://web.archive.org/web/20070427222105/ht … 466.html#S2466N

The files are available on their ftp server at - ftp://ftp.tyan.com/bios/

Thank you, I can't see either S2466/S2466N or S2466N-4M written on the board, but when the system posted it said V4.03 BIOS so I deduced it must be a S2466N-4M so flashed the V4.06 BIOS.

It's strange that the SMBIOS does not report the BIOS version when it's reported at post time, I can't even find it in a dump of the BIOS ROM.

I tried to boot with an AMD Athlon MP 1900+ (Palomino) also installed, but the system won't even post 🙁
